Director of Spacecraft AvionicsLos Angeles, CAA pioneering space mobility company developing next-generation spacecraft and is seeking a Director of Spacecraft Avionics to lead the architecture, development, and delivery of mission-critical flight systems.This is a senior technical leadership opportunity for someone who thrives in fast-paced aerospace environments and wants to shape the future of autonomous spacecraft operations beyond Earth orbit.You will lead avionics strategy and execution across current and future vehicle platforms, while building and scaling a multidisciplinary engineering team spanning embedded software, electrical hardware, FPGA development, power systems, and integration & test.Key Responsibilities:Lead the technical vision and roadmap for spacecraft avionics systems Oversee development of flight computers and command & data handling systems Drive embedded software and real-time systems development Architect FPGA, SoC, and high-reliability processing systems Lead electrical power system development including batteries, regulation, and distribution Support propulsion control electronics and safety-critical controllers Own system-level decisions around redundancy, fault tolerance, radiation strategy, and autonomy Guide avionics integration across spacecraft, payloads, propulsion systems, and ground infrastructure Build and mentor a high-performing avionics engineering organization Lead flight readiness activities including technical reviews, anomaly resolution, and mission assurance Partner closely with manufacturing and supply chain teams to support scaling and production readiness Requirements:BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field 10+ years of experience developing spacecraft, launch vehicle, or aerospace avionics systems Strong experience with embedded systems, digital/analog electronics, and avionics architecture Experience leading teams responsible for flight hardware and embedded software Proven track record supporting systems through full mission lifecycle including design, test, launch, and operations Familiarity with protocols such as CAN, SpaceWire, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, RS422, CCSDS, or similar Comfortable operating in high-ownership, rapidly evolving technical environments Desirable experience:Propulsion avionics or vehicle control systems experience Radiation tolerant design exposure Spaceflight qualification experience Production scaling or constellation program experience Autonomy, fault management, or spacecraft health monitoring experience
