About the Role The Machine Superintendent is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a paper machine at the Madawaska mill.ResponsibilitiesActively supports and promotes safe work practices throughout the mill by being present at safety activities and personally encouraging safe behaviors.Manages the paper machines production activities using a combination of daily review with staff as well as spending time on the floor where the incumbent will lead and guide direct reports.Strives to ensure the most efficient operation of the paper machine after thorough review of production orders and schedules.Works closely with the purchasing department to obtain the best cost and quality possible for required supplies.Works closely with sales employees and customer service reps to ensure quality products are available to customers.Ensures Management Operating Systems are followed daily.Provides information to finance for the annual operating budget.Attempts to reduce overruns and decide on the disposition of old inventory.Ensure that direct reports are informed of Company activities, results, priorities and operating philosophy so activities and behaviors of members of departments are aligned with the values supported by the organization.Ensures that both salaried and hourly employees have adequate training to support activities of the department and fulfil future manpower requirements.Attends and supports the daily mill production meeting and participates in other meetings such as safety, capital/project reviews, contractor performance, business review, project scheduling, budget review and staff meetings as required.Is responsible for paper machine coverage during certain weekends on a rotation basis.Shall have responsibility to report problems with the food safety management system to identified person(s). Designated personnel shall have defined responsibility and authority to initiate and record actions.Shall have an awareness of the Food Safety Policy, GMP's, HACCP principles and Food Safety Standard.QualificationsCollege degree in related field, or equivalent experienceMinimum of 5 years' experience in Pulp and PaperMicrosoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook.
