About the CompanyA growing defense-focused manufacturer is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead accounting operations and ensure compliance with government contract regulations. This individual will oversee financial reporting, cost accounting, and internal controls, and serve as a key business partner to operations and leadership.Core ResponsibilitiesManage all general ledger, AR/AP, disbursements, and payroll accounting functionsLead the monthly close process and prepare financial statementsEnsure timely and accurate revenue recognition under ASC 606, including % of completionApprove and manage outgoing ACH, wire, and check paymentsMaintain financial policies and procedures to support audit readiness and controlGovernment Contract & Compliance OversightAct as Subject Matter Expert on CAS, FAR/DFARS, and indirect cost structuresPrepare and submit provisional billing rates and Incurred Cost Proposals (ICP) to DCMAServe as point of contact for all external audits, including DCAA and financial auditsEnsure compliance with government accounting standards and ITAR requirementsMaintain proper labor distribution and payroll journal entries in accordance with contract guidelinesFinancial Planning & AnalysisAssist in the preparation and review of annual budgets and forecastsConduct variance analysis for departments and programsSupport cost control efforts and lean/sigma-based process improvementsProvide operational and financial metrics to leadership for decision-makingDeliver ad hoc financial analysis using Excel and ERP toolsCost Accounting & ERP SystemsMaintain and enhance standard cost systems within SAP or equivalent ERPPerform labor and overhead postings, cost center reporting, and analysisSupport IFRS consolidation and quarterly financial reporting requirementsEnsure accurate reconciliations and reporting across balance sheet and P<eam Leadership & Cross-Functional SupportSupervise accounting, disbursement, and accounts receivable staffCoordinate financial reporting packages for internal and external stakeholdersCollaborate with tax advisors on filings and compliancePartner with operations on financial visibility and cost initiativesRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field5+ years of experience in government contracting or manufacturing accountingProficient in U.S. GAAP, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and FAR/DFARS complianceSkilled in ERP systems (SAP preferred) and advanced Excel functionsU.S. CitizenshipAbility to obtain and maintain Secret ClearanceStrong written, verbal, and analytical skills; works independently with minimal oversightPreferred QualificationsCPA preferredBackground in public accounting or complex corporate environmentsFamiliarity with IFRS and international financial reportingPrior experience supporting DCAA/DCMA auditsExperience in ITAR-compliant facilities
