POSITION SUMMARY: The Research & Development Technologist provides assistance to Technology staff in the testing, analysis, and reporting of new material development in conjunction with product development efforts undertaken in the laboratory, pilot plant, and production facilities.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists with machine trials, monitoring checkpoints and collecting samples and data.Perform physical, chemical testing on raw materials, product prototypes and commercial materials according to specified test procedures.Assist in the construction of small test devices for new applications.Reviews and modifies test methods to ensure accurate and useful data.Performs applications on media test stands and oversees their maintenance and calibration.Maintain computer spreadsheets and provides other computerized documentation of lab experiments and results.Formulates standardized reports, as required.Maintains laboratory notebook.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school degree or Associates degree plus three years relevant work experience OR equivalent.Strong leadership, task management, time management and communication skills.Effective team participant in product or process development programs.SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:Adequate skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word Ability to use Minitab and draw statistic conclusionsAble to use and teach others how to use H&V test equipment CORE COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS: Competent scientific acumen to use scientific judgement, discernment and perception in laboratory settings.Competent project management to assist Scientist in meeting critical milestones and timelinesStrong end use application knowledge of H&V productsStrong understanding of H&V process technologiesPHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Physical Demands: While performing duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, talk, use hands to lift, carry, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance, stoop. The employee is often required to lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Occasionally required to climb stairs, kneel or crouch, balance.Work Environment: Regularly exposed to hot and/or humid conditions in warmer months; wet and/or slippery areas, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. Work near moving and/or vibrating mechanical parts.
