Automation and Controls Manager

Job Description:A company in El Segundo is seeking an experienced Test Engineering Manager to lead the design and development of advanced test systems and ground support equipment. This role is central to enabling spacecraft development through custom, cross-disciplinary engineering solutions that support testing, qualification, and manufacturing operations.This role is 5 days onsite in El Segundo, and paying $160-$200k/year. Benefit packages provided by the end client.Day-to-Day Responsibilities:• Lead a small engineering team focused on terrestrial test systems and infrastructure.• Oversee the design, build, and maintenance of integrated hardware/software systems for flight hardware testing.• Manage project timelines, budgets, and team resources.• Collaborate across engineering disciplines to deliver robust, scalable solutions.• Ensure thorough documentation and continuous improvement of test systems.Required Skills & Experience:• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering field.• 8+ years of experience in electromechanical test system development.• Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities.• Strong background in PLC systems (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Beckhoff).• Demonstrated success managing complex technical projects under tight deadlines.• Understanding of DevOps for hardware systems, including CI/CD, Docker, and infrastructure-as-code.• Experience with real-time industrial automation (e.g., EtherCAT, Beckhoff)Nice to Have Skills & Experience:• Experience in aerospace or spacecraft testing environments.• Familiarity with data acquisition and visualization tools (e.g., Grafana, InfluxDB).• Knowledge of environmental test systems (TVAC, vibration, thermal cycling).• Hands-on experience with fluid and high-pressure gas systems.• Proficiency in scripting languages like Python for automation.• Understanding of spacecraft qualification standards and certification processes.• Track record of building service-oriented engineering teams and standardized documentation practices.
