Allient Inc. is currently seeking an Import Compliance Specialist to join our team at our Corporate Innovation Center and Headquarters located in Buffalo, New York!The Import Compliance Specialist is responsible for the management of imports, ensure employee compliance with U.S. trade laws and regulations across the organization. This position will closely work with business functions throughout Allient both domestically and globally to ensure employee compliance with internal policies and applicable trade regulations, statutes, and governmental agency guidance. This role will additionally be the lead point of contact for Allient and all subsidiaries located within the United States for inbound (import) shipments and resolve any issues or delays through direct coordination with both our customs brokers and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Apply now!Responsibilities:Subject matter expert in import classification (HTS), import tariffs, duties, and fees, customs brokers, recordkeeping requirements, and all associated U.S. laws and regulations. Assess and appropriately address deficiencies, including but not limited to regulatory import recordkeeping requirements, and customs clearance requirements. As it relates to imports, this individual must serve as primary point-of-contact for all customs brokers utilized by Allient sites in the United States. Such communication includes, but is not limited to: Confirmation of required information (country of origin, HTS, value, FTA confirmation, authorization confirmation), Establish Standardized Operating Procedures, Obtaining all required shipment documentation required to comply with recordkeeping requirements, Continuous bond renewals and Tracking liquidated entriesManage and maintain all documents to meet recordkeeping requirements.Assist to identify/verify applicable import classifications, HTS and Schedule B codes, and support review of shipping documentation. Manage and maintain recordkeeping of import documentation and any associated authorizations (i.e. U.S.G. licenses and agreements).Identifies the need for government licensing/authorizations for all international shipment required to pursue business objectives and goals. Apply for and obtains all applicable USG authorizations.Serve as primary interference/POC for all customs brokers and freight forwarders. Address and rectify any issues or delays with international import shipments.Identify and resolve any problems within our existing import operations processes.Provides employee training and support on import process, procedure and compliance.Conduct and meet self-auditing requirements of imports.Provide on-going analysis of import-based regulatory changes, including tariffs, advise leadership of upcoming changes of concern and work with purchasing to gather data needed to conduct impact analysis. Conduct quarterly tariff assessments and projections in conjunction with operational leadership and the Finance Department. Maintains accurate records and executes monthly and quarterly KPI's on performance of brokers, freight forwarders, and shipment reviews. Perform other trade compliance-based responsibilities as needed or required. Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Engineering or degree in Business or an advanced degree in International or Global Business or a related field.Minimum of 5 years in import compliance or a related field and minimum 3 years of experience in or supporting a manufacturing or engineering organization. Preferred experience with import compliance from multiple countries outside of the United States of America.Working knowledge of US HTS with respect to general chapter notes, rules of interpretation, etc.Knowledge of U.S. export/import regulations including ITAR, EAR, DFAR, OFAC, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and regulations of other applicable partnering government agencies.U.S. Citizenship requiredExperience using SharePoint, MS 365, ACE/AES Direct, DECCS, and Visual Compliance is desired.Experience with US-Canada-Mexico Free Trade Agreement (USMCA) desired.Physical Demands:This position requires frequent walking and standing while completing the core responsibilities of this position.Moderate level of travel will be required based on need.
