LOWER ELEMENTARY TEACHING ASSISTANT for the 2025-2026 Academic Year We are currently seeking a Lower Elementary Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated faculty. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young learners in a child-centered, academically rich environment.GENERAL POSITION SUMMARYAs a Lower Elementary Assistant, you'll partner closely with a Montessori Lead Guide (Teacher) to create a nurturing, orderly, and inspiring classroom for students in grades 1-3. You'll help prepare the learning environment, support individual and group lessons, monitor student well-being, and model the values of courtesy, independence, and curiosity that are foundational to Montessori and IB education.JOB SCOPECollaborates with Lower Elementary Guide and other school professionals to meet the needs of all students emotionally, socially, and academically. May be asked to help organize field trips, or to work with room parents for organizing classroom activities.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAssists in the preparation of curriculum materialsAssists in preparing and maintaining the prepared Montessori environmentMeets with the Lower Elementary Guide to learn about the classroom and recess duties and responsibilities towards the beginning of the academic yearAssists with the care and maintenance of classroom materials, maintaining an orderly environment and keeping it clean and in good conditionMeets with guides during a scheduled weekly meeting, keeping notes in TEAMSGreets students in morning carpool, ensuring their safety as they exit their vehicleCommits to best practices in Montessori education and professional developmentFollows through as needed with individualized student needs, including accommodations for Learning ProfilesChecks work and maintain written records for each student as needed and notifies guides of trends or patterns Works with individual and small groups of students as directed by the Lower Elementary GuideShares responsibility for the safety and physical well-being of the studentsSupervises students during lunch prep, lunch, and recessRefers parents to classroom guides for details about studentsAssists with group interviews for prospective studentsParticipates in a regular evaluation process including classroom observations, self-evaluation, and annual goal settingSupports guide with implemented guidelines and expectations for behavior in the classroom and during other on-campus/off-campus trips and eventsShares with Lower Elementary Guide any observation regarding student behavior, relaying information directly to Director of Lower Elementary when necessary or in the absence of the Lower Elementary GuideReports all accidents/incidents at once. Completes Incident Report and delivers copies of the same to parent and School NursePlans field trips and outings in collaboration with Teaching Assistant, room parents, Outdoor Ed. Coordinator or Director of Lower ElementaryAttends school, community, and/or parent education events as detailed in the Employee Handbook or as assigned by Director of Lower ElementaryAttends and actively participates in Teaching Assistant meetings, Lower Elementary meetings and other meetings as assignedWalks with students to ASE, After School Activities, or afternoon carpoolTakes the lead in the classroom in the absence of the Lower Elementary GuideRefers parent questions and/or concerns to Lower Elementary GuideAttends and actively participates in Lower Elementary Teaching Assistant meetings, and other meetings as assignedComplies with the content of the Employee Handbook for all duties not listedAdheres to the behaviors described in the Alcuin Standards of Faculty ExcellenceOther duties as assigned by the Director of Lower Elementary and Head of SchoolMARGINAL FUNCTIONSCompletes bus drivers training and drives students in an Alcuin school bus as needed for class/school related activitiesMentors new Lower Elementary Assistants as requested by the Director of Lower Elementary KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTSRequired:Ability to provide documents verifying authorization to work in the U.S.Must pass Criminal Background Checks and Drug TestingBachelor's DegreeStrong Interpersonal skills2+ years working with childrenWorking knowledge of Microsoft Suite of productsAbility to interact and communicate professionally with colleagues, students, parents, and others in the school community and during off-campus school related activitiesAbility to function as a team with colleagues and Director of Lower Elementary, and with other administrators as required Willing to take Montessori Classroom Assistant's Training, if recommendedPreferred:4 years' experience working with childrenWORK SCHEDULESchedule: Generally, Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 4:00 pm. There may be some evening or weekend work.
