If you are seeking productive ways to give back, this opportunity may be for you. The City of Bangor is seeking candidates for the position of Public Works Director. This is a highly visible and citizen focused position, responsible for the overall administration of the Public Works Department and the Fleet Maintenance Division. Interested candidates must apply through the City's website at ResponsibilitiesDirects and supervises all public works departments including seven divisions: electrical, administrative, forestry, highway, cemeteries, sanitation, and fleet services.Develops and implements succession plan, including investments in training and development of existing and future leaders.Participates in union"”management and negotiation meetings and agreements and assures proper execution of terms.Prepares annual expenditure, revenue and capital improvements budgets, recommends to City Manager and Council; administers upon approval including authorization of expenditures, payroll, project accounts, and equipment. Develops plans and bid specifications for various capital improvement and equipment expenditures.Works closely with City Engineer, Director of Water Quality, Bangor Water District, and other public utilities to ensure the coordination of all work in the right of way.Works closely with the City Engineer, Police Chief, Code Enforcement, and contractors to monitor projects that affect vehicle and pedestrian traffic and coordinates effective traffic plans and communicates the traffic plans with the general public.Oversees street maintenance program including resurfacing, cleaning, patching, and snow removal operations. Develops annual street improvement, traffic signal, and sidewalk maintenance plans.Responds to citizen requests and inquiries, attending and making recommendations at various departmental and public meetings.Assists City Manager and other department officials with developing and implementing City personnel and project policies, and work plans.Assists in regional solid waste management and attends related technical conferences, seminars, and meetings as required.Maintains an inventory of city assets using the city ArcGIS program.Assures that the Public Works Department is applying resources appropriately to maintain high level of efficiency, effectiveness, and fairness in conformance with best practices.Serves on various committees for specific beautification and improvement projects.Attends council, Tree Board, and committee meetings as required.Performs related duties as assignedQualificationsBachelor's degree in civil engineering and/or related field of study or equivalent training and experience.This position requires schedule flexibility including occasional nights and weekends, as required to support business needs. BenefitsThis is a full-time Exempt position with a comprehensive benefits package.
