Liesfeld Contractor, Inc. is seeking a proactive and strategic Human Resources Manager to lead all aspects of its HR function, with a focus on recruiting, internship program development, talent growth, and organizational compliance. This individual will support both field and office operations by advancing best practices in hiring, onboarding, employee engagement, and workforce development. The ideal candidate is hands-on, approachable, and passionate about building and supporting high-performing teams in a fast-paced construction environment.Key ResponsibilitiesRecruitment and Workforce PlanningLead full-cycle recruiting for field and office roles, including operators, laborers, foremen, estimators, project managers, and administrative staffPartner with trade schools, colleges, and industry networks to build a strong recruiting pipelineMaintain and forecast staffing needs in alignment with company growth goalsCoordinate candidate screening, interview scheduling, reference checks, and offer documentationInternship Program DevelopmentDesign and manage a structured internship program aligned with key business units (field, estimating, project management)Build relationships with local colleges, trade programs, and educatorsManage intern onboarding, performance feedback, and full-time conversion planningOnboarding and OrientationDeliver a consistent and professional onboarding experience for all new hiresConduct new hire orientation and facilitate completion of employment documentationIntroduce company policies, safety procedures, and core values on day oneCompensation and BenefitsAdminister employee benefit plans including health, dental, and retirementCoordinate open enrollment and assist employees with benefit-related questionsEnsure compliance with benefit documentation and reporting requirementsEmployee RelationsServe as a resource for employee concerns and workplace questionsPromote a positive, respectful work environment and team-oriented cultureSupport conflict resolution and employee communication in coordination with leadershipAssist with performance conversations, documentation, and disciplinary processes as neededCompliance and HR OperationsMaintain employee records in compliance with federal, state, and local laws (FMLA, EEO, ADA, OSHA, etc.)Coordinate HR policy communication and support consistent policy enforcementMaintain and update the employee handbook and associated acknowledgment formsCollaborate with Safety and Accounting teams to align on documentation and compliance needsTraining and DevelopmentIdentify skill gaps and training needs across departmentsCoordinate internal and external training programsSupport leadership development, succession planning, and cross-training initiativesTrack participation and maintain training recordsPerformance ManagementSupport the annual review process and facilitate performance feedback cyclesHelp managers set clear goals and performance expectationsProvide support for performance improvement plans and development trackingQualificationsRequiredMinimum of 5 years of professional Human Resources experienceBachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related fieldMust be located in the greater Richmond, VA area and able to work on-site at the Rockville officeProven success in recruiting, onboarding, and employee developmentStrong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the companySolid knowledge of HR regulations and best practices related to employment law and compliancePreferredExperience in construction, heavy civil, or field-based industriesFamiliarity with construction software systems such as Procore, Sage, or HCSSExperience building internship programs or leading workforce development initiativesWhat We OfferA close-knit, high-performance team culture rooted in loyalty, integrity, and hard workThe opportunity to shape recruiting and talent development at one of Central Virginia's most respected sitework contractorsCompetitive salary based on experienceComprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and bonus opportunities
