Open to: General PublicWork Week: NE (35-hour) Work WeekSalary: $51,987.70 (non-negotiable)Opening Date: 6/17/2025Closing Date: 7/8/2025Existing Vacancies: 1Program/LocationDepartment of Environmental ProtectionWatershed & Land ManagementLand Resource ProtectionFreshwater Wetlands & Highlands Permitting501 East State StreetTrenton, NJ 08625Scope of EligibilityOpen to applicants who meet the requirements below.DescriptionUnder the close supervision of a supervisory official, in an Environmental Services Program, learns to conduct routine surveys, studies, inspections, and/or investigations relating to the improvement and/or monitoring of environmental conditions, and/or the enforcement of environmental laws/regulations; does other related duties.Specific to the PositionGain knowledge and experience in reviewing and processing permit applications for projects regulated under the Freshwater Wetlands Protection Act, Flood Hazard Area Control Act, Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act, and the Coastal Zone Management Act. Develop proficiency in interpreting and applying Flood Hazard Area Control Act rules to freshwater wetlands applications, ensuring that all submissions are handled efficiently, accurately, and within prescribed timelines.Preferred Skill SetDetail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously. Demonstrate strong customer service skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel. Capable of learning how to work independently with minimal supervision, while also contributing effectively as a team member.RequirementsEducation: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in one of the Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, or in Environmental Planning, Environmental Policy, or Physical Geography; or in Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Bio-resource Engineering.NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting.
