Maine Trust for Local News / Human Resources Coordinator / Portland, MaineWe are working with our client, Maine Trust for Local News, the state's largest network of independent news and media outlets dedicated to keeping local news in local hands in seeking a Human Resources Coordinator to join their team in South Portland, MaineThe HR Coordinator will provide administrative and project support to the HR team focused on benefits, safety, and employee engagement. This early career role will provide an opportunity to gain broad experience across people operations, internal/external communications, and engagement initiatives. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a collaborative environment.Benefits of the Job:Collaborative environment within a growing and changing organizationComprehensive benefit package including medical/dental, vision, HSA, paid time off and 401KCompetitive salary of $50-$55k commensurate with experienceOpportunity for professional growth as a Human Resources generalistRequirements for the HR Coordinator:Degree preferred in HR, Business or similar field; PHR or SHRM-CP certification is desirable1-3 years' experience in HR, communications, or a cross-functional administrative roleFamiliarity with Maine employment laws, HR practices, and HRIS platforms (ADP a plus)Experience with workers' comp, OSHA or safety is a plusProficiency with technology; Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, Calendar)Experience in a unionized workplace is helpfulProfessional written and verbal communication skillsDiscretion and professionalism in handling confidential informationExceptional attention to detail, organizational and time management skillsCritical thinking and proactive problem-solving abilitiesSelf-starter who takes initiative and sees tasks through to completionStrong collaboration skills with a team-oriented approachResponsibilities of the HR Coordinator:Respond to HR, employee and manager inquiries with a high level of professionalism and accuracyPrepare and distribute HR-related communications and documentsMaintain accurate records, and ensure data integrity in the HRISCollaborate with Finance and management to resolve payroll, timekeeping, and leave accrual issuesReconcile monthly benefit invoices and ensure timely submission to FinanceParticipate in safety committee meetings and maintain OSHA logsMaintain organized personnel files and assist with internal HR auditsPost job openings and track applicant flow using recruitment platformsSchedule interviews and coordinate logistics with candidates and hiring managersSupport engagement and retention activities including orientation, training, employee recognition, and wellness eventsDraft and distribute internal announcements, staff newsletters, and basic external communicationsHelp plan and promote internal events and community outreach programsAssist with social media content and basic website updatesAs a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Trust for Local News, we strive for fair and thorough reporting methods, accurate reporting, and transparency.
