We value people who are detail-oriented, collaborative, and driven to grow their skills.Position OverviewWe are currently seeking a Senior Civil CAD Designer to lead our CAD department and join our Site Development Team in Austin. The ideal candidate will have deep technical experience in Civil 3D, strong leadership capabilities, and a passion for mentoring others while producing high-quality, efficient site development plans.This is a hands-on design leadership role responsible for managing CAD operations, enforcing standards, developing team members, and serving as the go-to authority for CAD production across the firm.Key ResponsibilitiesServe as the head of the CAD department, overseeing day-to-day operations and ensuring the consistent application of drafting standards and processesProduce detailed civil engineering drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D, including grading, utilities, drainage, and roadway plansRead and interpret architectural and engineering drawingsSet up and manage sheet sets, drawing databases, and Civil 3D data shortcutsDraft engineering plans based on verbal instructions, redlines, and conceptual sketchesMaintain and enforce CAD standards across all projectsProvide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and mid-level CAD staffLead CAD team reviews, QA/QC checks, and support professional development for the drafting teamSupport construction documentation, including preparing field-ready drawing setsArchive technical documentation per Mahoney Engineering protocolsCommunicate and coordinate with engineers, project managers, and team members to ensure seamless integration of design workflowsRequired Skills & QualificationsMinimum 8 years of experience in civil drafting/design for land developmentAdvanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including pipe networks, surfaces, profiles, data shortcuts, and corridor modelingPrior experience leading or managing CAD production teams preferredSolid understanding of construction design methodsFamiliarity with XREFs and document management systemsStrong organizational, leadership, and communication skillsExperience with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook)Post-secondary education in Drafting Technology or Civil Engineering Technology preferredCompensation & BenefitsHourly Range: $35.00 - $51.00/hourAnnual Equivalent: $72,800 - $106,000 (based on a 40-hour work week)Additional Benefits Include:401(k) with company matchPTO and paid holidaysFlexible schedulingContinuing education (PDH)Performance bonusesComprehensive health, dental, and vision insuranceLife Insurance and FSA optionsLong-term and short-term disability coverageHow to ApplySubmit your resume and a portfolio or example of relevant design work to careers@.
