Job Description: BioVerde Tech, LLC is seeking a talented and motivated Fermentation Manager to lead the methanotroph fermentation research, development and scaleup activities at its Ohio pilot site on the campus of the University of Akron. Thorough knowledge of gas fermentation technology will be critical to develop and provide oversight for technical transfer, scale-up, process improvements, and pilot manufacturing from benchtop to 1000L scale. The successful candidate will have a current operational knowledge of industrial gas fermentation platforms and methodologies including fed-batch, continuous, and high-density fermentation processes and harvest operations including tangential ?ow ?ltration, depth ?ltration, and centrifugation. The position will provide leadership to build a high-performance fermentation group. This role o?ers the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking advancements in biotechnology while working with a passionate and innovative team committed to a sustainable future.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Successfully lead the process development, scale-up and upstream production of engineered methanotrophic bacteria for biomass and chemical products derived from aerobicmethane fermentationBioreactor operations and proper handling of samples (gas,liquid, cell mass) and harvested biomass and broth at benchtop and pilot scalesDevelop and maintain SOPs internally and in partnership with technology providers / vendorsImprove technical capabilities and quality practices to build an industry-leading methanotroph fermentation platformBroad use of expertise and knowledge to solve complex non-routine technical problemsEvaluate process data, perform troubleshooting and root-cause analysis, and provide strategic recommendations leading to improved economics and process robustnessLead the execution, completion and review of manufacturing documentation including batch production records, quality system documents and reportsMaintain detailed recordsof experimental procedures, data, and results using ELN and LIMS;Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholdersServe as subject matter expert withinthe company and with partners/customersEnsure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations, policies and proceduresSupervise, mentor and provide training for development of fermentation sta? as company growsContribute to building a highly collaborative culture that encourages continuous learning, improvement, and innovation, and encourages and mentors team members to expand their technical skill baseRequired Skills and Quali?cations:Educationand Experience:BS (+10 y), MS(+5 y) or PhD (+5 y) degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering or related discipline is required. A PhD is preferred but not essential depending upon relevant experienceMinimum 5 - 10 years of relevant fermentation experience in an industrial settingTechnicalSkills and Experience:Operational experience in gas fermentation at 100L+ scales required, ideally with methanotrophic bacteriaOperational experience with upstream harvest processes including tangential ?ow ?ltration, depth ?ltration and centrifugationOperational experience with scale-up of fermentation processes from bench to pilotExperience with single-use bioreactors a plusSoft Skills:Strong organizational, interpersonal and project management skillsProven track record of e?ective performance and management potentialHighly independent and self-motivated and works well as part of a team that includes local and remote membersAbility to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment and adapt to evolving priorities;Excellent written and verbal communication skills;Work Environment:The position is based in Akron, Ohio, at the University of Akron campus.
