Civil Engineering Intern

Overall Responsibility:Under the direction of experienced engineers, work on a variety of clearly defined assignments that require the application of standard design engineering techniques. These can include preparing civil engineering drawings, specifications, and estimates for design projects; working on construction projects and completing project tasks. The work builds technical skills in design calculations, reading and interpreting surveys, researching design options, writing technical reports, managing projects, basic CADD review and drafting, and communicating with members of teams.Key Job Duties:Manage assigned project tasks including preparing and updating project schedules and producing reports related to projects. May interact with other professionals and teams on project matters, under guidanceAssist in preparing engineering related calculations, design drawings, specifications, and visual aidsAssist with field work (e.g., groundwater and soil sampling, remediation system operations, site inspections)Collect and enter data, and apply technical principles and theories to assist in interpreting and analyzing dataReview contractor submittals for adherence to technical specifications on construction projectsCompare investigation findings to relevant studies and provincial/federal regulations to assess compliance, draft reports documenting results and presenting findings; andMiscellaneous assignments on an as-needed basis Desired qualities and attributes:Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office softwareGIS and/or CAD skillsGood oral and written communication skills, good sense of professional ruleExcellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize workExcellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilitiesProficient in Microsoft Office applicationsMust be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language clearly and both orally and in writingEducational requirements:Currently in pursuit of Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field
