With a lean team of dedicated scientists and engineers, we are seeking a Chief of Staff to support the CEO, and support the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Business Officer in partnership activities and corporate planning.Position OverviewThe Chief of Staff will play a pivotal role in driving iOB's growth by serving as the primary relay between the executive team and all aspects of corporate execution - taking on many tasks required for the proper function of a startup. The role will have a substantial emphasis in commercial and BD - working closely with the CBO - towards establishing early commercial relationships:identifying, evaluating, and managing sales and strategic partnerships. This individual will be responsible for supporting a robust pipeline of collaborations with pharmaceutical and biotech companies, fostering strong relationships, and working closely with the COO, CBO, and CEO on the successful execution of our partnership strategy. The role will include project management, preparing materials and agenda for meetings, facilitating discussion on a variety of topics, ensuring alignment between stakeholders - including consistency of all decisions with corporate objectives -, rapid interventions when issues arise, financial analysis, etc This is a full-time, individual contributor role that requires a hands-on approach and a strong understanding of the biotechnology landscape: including software, AI, robotics, product development, commercial and BD activities.This role is an excellent opportunity to experience the early venture creation process side-by-side with executives from Silicon Valley, who have a track record at some of the most successful biotech companies of the last decade. It is considered a founding role with substantial equity and lower cash compensation.Key ResponsibilitiesPartnership & Deal SupportActively contribute to business and commercial development by sending emails, communicating with potential customers, and find sales leads for the organizationSupport sales, pharmaceutical, and biotech partnership discussions and business development conversations from initial contact through deal closure.Manage due diligence processes and coordinate with legal and scientific teams on deal documentation.Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities that align with strategic objectives.Company OperationsPrepare for and participate in leadership meetings - ensure high-quality notes are taken and circulated; and decisions made are propagated to all stakeholdersCreate detailed project plans with the COO, and maintain their accuracy with contributorsManage interventions to ensure delays and unexpected challenges are dealt with quickly - bring in decision makers when necessaryMarket Strategy & Commercial InsightsContribute to market analysis and competitive intelligence to inform strategic positioning and partnership opportunities.Collaborate with Advisors, product leaders, and the scientific team to translate research breakthroughs into commercial opportunities Aggregate market-driven key performance indicators to inform commercial planning.Alliance ManagementServe as the primary point of contact for established strategic alliances, ensuring effective communication and collaboration between iOB and our partners.Monitor the progress of ongoing collaborations, identify potential issues, and work with the CBO and CEO to resolve them.Ensure that all contractual obligations are met and that the value of partnerships is maximized for both iOB and our partners.Corporate StrategyCollaborate with the CEO and CBO to maintain relationships with key opinion leaders, pharmaceutical executives, and industry influencers.Represent iOB at industry conferences, investor meetings, and partnership forums, effectively communicating our value proposition.Collaborate closely with the scientific and operations teams to ensure alignment between technological capabilities and commercial opportunities.Required QualificationsIndustry ExperienceAdvanced degree in life sciences (PhD, MD) or MBA from a top-tier program.5+ years of experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical business development, with at least 2 years in a leadership or senior individual contributor role focused on alliance management and/or program management.History of successfully establishing relationships within and external to biotech companies.An understanding of iPSC biology, cell therapy, or regenerative medicine is highly preferred.Experience with early-stage biotech companies and understanding of startup dynamics.Technical CompetenciesStrong scientific background with the ability to engage credibly with R&D teams and external scientists.Understanding of regulatory pathways (FDA, EMA) and clinical development processes relevant to cell-based therapies.Familiarity with biotech financing and partnership valuation methodologies.Leadership & CommunicationExceptional negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.Demonstrated ability to work effectively and independently in resource-constrained environments.Strong presentation skills for diverse audiences, including scientific, business, and investor communities.Ability to think strategically and execute tactically.
