POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Estimator is responsible for the overall coordination of functions associated with estimating including specification review, cost review, scheduling, risk assessment, and other related duties. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide detailed and accurate construction cost estimates, ensuring the financial viability and profitability of projects. This person must be able to work directly with a diverse team of project managers, architects, and engineers, as well as interfacing with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Take a lead role in communicating with clients, architects, vendors, suppliers, and other involved parties to gather and coordinate informationAttend pre-bid meetings to determine the scope of work and respond to RFPsBuild relationships with vendors, suppliers, clients, and coworkers to ensure effective communicationRequest bids from subcontractors and supplies; negotiate for competitive pricingReview bids and make decisions on the most appropriate selections that best meet the needs of each projectDevelop the total company bid for the project outlining both the costs and timeframesIdentify the labor, equipment, materials, and production rates for a projectCalculate direct and indirect costs, cash expenditures, and monitor cost escalations over the duration of the projectCollaborate with project managers, clients, and other interested parties to determine job requirements and manage costs and timeline throughout the projectUse blueprints, job specifications, and material costs to prepare cost estimates that encompass known and potential factors over the course of the projectReview and understand architectural drawingsCalculate the labor needed including types of labor, hours, schedules, etc MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Must have 5+ years of experience in heavy civil and/or industrial construction management and estimatingBachelor's degree in construction management or engineering requiredProficiency in HCSS HeavyBid or similar software is requiredProficiency in Bluebeam, Microsoft Office products, and Primavera P6Is currently living in the St. Louis metro area or has the ability to relocate to St. LouisKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESMust have experience reading blueprints and construction documents with knowledge of all phases of construction.Excellent leadership skills and an ability to collaborate with a team.Strong time management and communication skillsAbility to closely manage timelines and effectively deal with project disruptionsExcellent problem-solving skillsStrong knowledge of construction methodologies, building codes, and safety regulations
