Company: Knowles ElectronicsBusiness: MedTech and Specialty Audio (MSA)Location: Itasca, ILSummary:We are seeking an Electro-Acoustic Engineer (level to be determined by experience) to work with our dynamic product development team. Industry experience in miniature electro-acoustic and mechanical components is desired. We seek a person who will assist in the development of new designs through proof of concept and prototypes. Detailed modification or iterations of existing designs will also be required. The successful candidate will be expected to achieve exceptional results through his/her contribution to product introduction, and innovation. This individual will work closely with Senior and Principal Engineers on design and technology concepts that are aligned with customer needs and business goals.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Design and development of microphone system using MEMS, ASIC and PCBEngage closely in multiple development phases through proof-of-concept / prototypes to mass productionDesign acoustic fixtures based on customer requirements.Develop and Debug test solutions for Microphone prototypes.Troubleshooting design / technical issues as they ariseLeads validation testing planning and execution of MEMS MicrophoneDefining and analyzing design verification results to ensure product is meeting requirementsHelp identify and innovate new or iterative products through collaboration with subject matter expertsCreate circuit models using both lumped parameter and finite element analysis. Then use these models to determine the best ASIC, MEMS, and Package components to meet the design requirementsPerform failure analysis on microphone prototypes.Provide guidance to technicians.Lab testing and characterization of microphone and ASICs.Evaluating ASIC and other subcomponents in the lab to validate system performance.Work closely with other design and test engineers to test, and characterize designs at every stageOccasionally assist Application Engineering with technical support escalations that require deeper subject matter expertiseClosely work with test and design engineers across various business unitsHelp achieve design concepts that meet or exceed internal specification and/or customer requirementsPOSITION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTSBachelor's Degree (Master's or Doctorate preferred) in Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Acoustics, or PhysicsMinimum of 7 years' experience in developing electro-mechanical, electro-acoustic productsExperience and knowledge of hearing aids, audio or acoustic product development is strongly preferred.Experience designing, building, and debugging electronic systems using digital oscilloscopes, power supplies, parameter analyzer, data acquisition and other standard small signal electrical lab equipmentExperience in lab testing of circuits while working with design teamSome experience with National Instruments LabVIEW is preferableKnowledge of acoustic concepts especially lumped element equivalent circuits for acoustic systems and transducers is good to have.Knowledge of FEA software such as COMSOL Multiphysics and/or Ansys is good to have.Knowledge of analog and/or digital audio systems: microphones (MEMS, ASIC), speakers, audio formats, audio signal chain in modern consumer electronics is a plusStrong team playerExperience with lumped parameter modeling in SPICE, Modelica, or other software is preferred.Experience with making lab measurements in the frequency and time domain using equipment like spectrum analyzers, audio analyzers, and oscilloscopes is strongly preferred.Experience working with cross-functional and remote engineering teams is essential.Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English.REPORTING STRUCTURE:Reporting to Sr. Manager ASIC Microphone
