We value every individuals personal, functional and economic situation, striving to attain meaningful, goal driven outcomes using a variety of skilled interventions.The physician assistant will be primarily involved in direct patient care in support of our Orthopedic Sports Medicine specialist. Duties include assist in the outpatient clinic/hospital setting, operating room following standard practice guidelines to provide safe and effective medical care. All duties will be as defined in the scope of the State of Illinois standards and the Physician Assistant practice act.We are seeking a detail oriented, motivated, hard working Physician Assistant to join our team and work with our board certified, fellowship trained Orthopedic Sports medicine surgeon with specialization in arthroscopy and treatment of injuries of the Shoulder, Elbow, Hip and Knee.ResponsibilitiesHospital/Surgical Center ResponsibilitiesMay need to round in the hospital on rare occasions with inpatientsMay need to assist in hospital consults on rare occasions.Assists the surgeon with major and minor surgical procedures in the operating room.Positions, preps and drapes the patient, as needed.Closes surgical wounds and performs post-operative wound careApplies dressings, casts, splints, braces, etc.Performs minor surgical procedures within scope of licensure.Responsible for coordinating patient care between the office and the hospital, writing orders for surgical patients both pre and post operatively, and reporting the condition of care of hospitalized patients to the physicianSees patients in the clinic both independently and with supervision. Dictates clinic progress notes. Orders appropriate tests and develops patient treatment plans with physician approval.Performs joint aspirations/injections.Interprets x-rays.Applies casts, splints, braces, etc. under supervision of the physician.Removes staples, sutures as neededAssists in fielding/triaging physician calls.Reviews lab results, x-rays, and MRI/CT results prior to entering patient exam roomConfers with physician regarding new patient findings and potential diagnosis and treatment.Administers therapeutic injections and performs minor procedures as neededReviews pre-operative instructions and explains the surgical process to patients who are about to have surgeryProvides diagnosis and treatment services to established patients and postoperative patientsPrescribes medications, treatments, in accordance with physician protocols and ensures that all prescriptions and required notes are in patient's medical recordFormulates and updates patient care plans; consults with physician as neededOrders pre-operative tests, CT scans, and MRIs, and documents, utilizing the EHR softwareFollows applicable ICD 10 and billing guidelines.Returns patient phone messages at designated times throughout the day; follow through with appropriate action; documents action taken in patient chart.Physical requirementsPosition requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, as well as manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.Employees will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Position requires lifting associated with patient transfers (up to 50 lbs.)Normal visual acuity and hearing are required.The employee will work under stressful conditions and work irregular hours.The employee will be exposed to bodily fluids on a regular basis.The employee will have frequent exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment.Travel to all associated hospitals and/or facilitiesRequirements:Educational RequirementsGraduate of an accredited physician assistant program with completed residency.Physician Assistant IL state licensure up to dateTraining in orthopedic care preferredMasters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.Active Certification from NCCPAActive Licensure as Physician's Assistant in the State of IllinoisACLS desirable; current CPR requiredQualifications and ExperienceAt least two years of experience in physician office/hospitalAbility to make appropriate, thoughtful and independent decisions regarding careShow professionalism, appropriate judgement and competence within the specialtyExperience with surgical assisting, office based management of medical conditionsEHR Software experienceAble to lift and assist patientsRequire good time management skills, self motivation and organizationStrong interpersonal skills, able to work well and communicate professionally with physicians, patients and staff in all levels in the organization.Use good judgment to determine if a problem requires consultation, referral or evaluation by the Supervising Physician or other health care professional.Job Type: Full-timeBenefits:401(k) matchingDental insuranceHealth insuranceHealth savings accountPaid time offVision insuranceExperience:Orthopedic surgery: 2 years (Preferred)License/Certification:Physician Assistant License (Required)Ability to Commute:Orland Park, IL 60467 (Required)Ability to Relocate:Orland Park, IL 60467: Relocate before starting work (Required)Work Location: In person
