Sr. Forming Technician

OverviewThe Senior Forming Technician plays a key role in the advanced manufacturing of custom signs by expertly setting up, operating, and maintaining forming machines for complex projects. This position requires extensive technical expertise, the ability to troubleshoot machinery, and advanced problem-solving skills. The Senior Forming Technician also mentors junior team members, leads process improvements, and ensures the highest standards of quality and efficiency in the production process.ResponsibilitieSet up, operate, and maintain forming machines for complex and custom sign componentsMeasure and cut raw materials with precision using advanced techniques and toolsLoad materials into vacuum forming machines, adjust controls, and monitor operations to achieve high-quality resultsDiagnose and troubleshoot machinery issues, ensuring timely resolution to minimize downtimeAnalyze machine operations and suggest or implement process improvements for enhanced efficiencyCollaborate with production staff and supervisors to address defects, optimize processes, and improve workflowsRecord and document machine performance, material usage, and troubleshooting activitiesTrain and mentor junior technicians, sharing knowledge and ensuring adherence to best practicesRead and interpret advanced blueprints, construction drawings, and technical specificationsEnsure proper maintenance and calibration of vacuum forming machines to achieve peak performanceMaintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all company safety protocols and standards.QualificationMust be at least 18 years oldHigh school diploma or equivalent preferred; technical certifications in manufacturing or a related field preferred3+ years of experience operating vacuum forming machines or similar equipment, with expertise in custom productionExperience in the sign manufacturing industry or a related field is highly preferredAdvanced mechanical and carpentry skills, with a focus on precise cutting and shaping of materialsProficiency in interpreting complex blueprints and construction drawingsStrong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for advanced machinery issuesExcellent communication and collaboration skills for training and teamworkAbility to lead process improvements and implement new production strategiesHigh attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining quality standardsAbility to handle large and heavy materials in a heated environmentFrequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reachingAbility to lift and/or move 50-80+ lbs, with assistance from lifting equipment as neededSpecific vision abilities, including close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focusProven track record of leading teams or mentoring junior staffFamiliarity with lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement practices is a plus.
