Position InformationServes as the on-site Director of a major UCR-administered Natural Reserve cluster (James San Jacinto Reserve and Oasis de los Osos Reserve). Successful applicant may be required to live on-site as part of the conditions of employment. The full salary range for the James Reserve Director is $66,500.00 - $118,300.00 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. (Required)6 - 10 years of related experience. (Required)Minimum RequirementsKnowledge and experience with basic maintenance techniques for electrical, plumbing, fencing, roads and physical plant. Demonstrated experience in the management and supervision of multiple staff unit and ability to hire, train, motivate and discipline staff. Knowledge of management of museum data collections. Demonstrated experience in writing and preparation of documents, including grant proposals, progress reports, final reports and annual reports. Ability to execute physical characteristics of job functions, including occasional work performed outside under adverse weather conditions and be able to drive 4WD vehicles on poor roads. Ability to learn names of plants, animals, geological formations, places and basic natural history of region around reserve. Knowledge of environmental health and safety policy, both generally and specific wilderness hazards. General knowledge of environmental issues relating to reserve management. Demonstrated experience with applicable skills in research, collecting, analyzing and publishing scientific data. Knowledge of safety and regulatory requirements relative to field station responsibility. Demonstrated ability to articulate oral presentation and discussion. In-depth knowledge of safety, legal, cultural and regulatory requirements relative to field research responsibility. Advanced attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Advanced ability to work in ambiguous conditions and lead team to take relevant responsible action as required. Advanced ability to lead research activities and project team independently, and to meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Advanced research and analytical skills. In-depth knowledge of local customs and operations at field/remote sites. Advanced ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships and partnerships with remote research partners. Advanced knowledge of research discipline, principles, concepts, analysis and/or operations being conducted at field/remote sites. Advanced communication skills with broad range of research partners and project team members.Preferred QualificationsAbility to use geographical information software. Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding sampling and collection of plants and animals. Experience with endowments and fundraising. Awareness of research and management issues relating to reserves in urbanizing landscapes. Previous experience working with government/federal agencies. Masters degree or equivalent post BA/BS experience in research. Knowledge of NRS policies and procedures.
