Position InformationThe UCR School of Medicine is seeking a Residency and Career Advisor to provide comprehensive career advising to medical students, particularly those in their fourth year preparing for residency. This role supports students in exploring medical specialty options, setting career goals, and enhancing their competitiveness for residency programs. Key responsibilities include individual and group advising, developing and facilitating workshops, coordinating faculty advisor involvement, and creating career-related resources. The advisor works collaboratively with Student Affairs and the Residency Development Specialist to ensure successful career outcomes for students. This position offers a hybrid schedule, with three days on campus and two days remote each week.The UCR School of Medicines Office of Student Affairs is dedicated to supporting medical students throughout their academic journey, from admission to graduation. The department offers a comprehensive suite of services, including academic advising, career and residency guidance, financial aid assistance, wellness resources, and student life programming. Its mission is to foster student success by providing equitable access to resources and cultivating a diverse, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. The office also manages key programs such as the Office of Career & Residency Advising, the Office of Student Support & Wellness, and various pathway and leadership initiatives, all aimed at preparing students to serve the healthcare needs of Inland Southern California and beyond.The full salary range for the Residency and Career Advisor is $61,000 - $106,800 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $83,900 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.EducationEducation RequirementsBachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. (Required)Advanced degree in related area. (Preferred)Experience RequirementsDemonstrated progressively responsible student affairs experience in a medical school or research university setting, including effectively advising and counseling students. (Required)4 - 7 years of related experience. (Required)Demonstrated experience with UC policies and procedures. (Preferred)Previous experience in a medical school or residency program. (Preferred)Previous UC experience. (Preferred)Minimum RequirementsAbility to work with people from diverse cultures. Working knowledge of UC, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to prospective applicants and the public. Ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills. Strong knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques. Working knowledge of admissions requirements for the UCR School of Medicine. Demonstrated organization and prioritization skills necessary to meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines. Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations related to the responsibilities of the position, including Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations and other institutions. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Working knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs at UC. Thorough knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design. Working knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of event planning, production and public relations. Organizational ability to coordinate student programs and events.Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.
