Designer - Land Development - 635095Location: Orlando, FLPosition OverviewAs part of a multidisciplinary design team, the Land Development Designer will be responsible for preparing construction drawings for a variety of projects. Tasks include creating site plans, grading and drainage plans, roadway alignments, plan and profiles, cross sections, earthwork calculations, and utility designs such as water distribution, sanitary sewer, and stormwater systems. The role also involves developing intersection layouts and incorporating applicable standard municipal details. Additional duties include preparing project specifications and compiling permit submittals for Water Management Districts, FDEP, municipalities, and other governing agencies.Essential Functions (may include but are not limited to):Provide CAD drafting support to engineering staff.Develop construction and presentation drawings independently or with guidance from senior designers/engineers.Assist in the technical development of contract plans and marketing materials.Maintain organized project drawing files.Prepare maps, graphs, charts, overlays, and various drawings, details, and sketches.Address redlines and design comments related to site layout and technical details.Organize and generate complex drawing layouts from verbal or written instructions, sketches, or detailed plans.Follow established CAD standards as required by clients, the team, or industry best practices.Suggest drafting standards or symbol enhancements to improve productivity and meet specific project needs.Stay updated on drafting and design procedures in civil engineering fields.Perform basic calculations for quantities, geometry, and measurements.Generate quantity takeoffs for construction estimates.Occasional evening or weekend work may be required on short notice.Essential QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent.Minimum of five (5) years of experience in civil engineering drafting and design.Experience in land development, airport, or transportation design preferred.Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D is required.Interest or experience in sustainable design or LEED initiatives is desirable.Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of staff and with clients.Highly organized and detail-oriented; capable of prioritizing and managing multiple tasks with minimal supervision.Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive client documents and information.Composure and efficiency in fast-paced environments with strict deadlines.Excellent communication skills, including correct use of grammar, punctuation, and professional vocabulary.Licensure & CertificationsValid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.NICET certification is preferred but not required.At The Planet Group, we connect Engineering experts with opportunities that match their skills, goals, and ambition.
