The finish department operates all the company's major finish equipment and produces finished parts for the assembly department. The top priorities of the position are to keep the finish staff always working productively on the company's product and to coordinate the finish departments' efforts towards meeting all scheduled ship dates.Primary responsibilities include:Manufacturing:Attend engineering meetings when called to consult on finish strategiesReview drawings for incoming jobs to understand how to prepare for and hand off work to finish staff. Consult with engineering and Project Advisors if needed.Hand off new jobs the finish dept staffOversee the queue of parts and material for the finish dept to ensure material is ready and available for staff when they start a new jobOversee delegation of work to the finish dept to control labor budgets on jobs and to limit overall indirect laborServe as a point person for the department for the engineering, project management, and purchasing staff to prevent Finish staff being unnecessarily interrupted by office staffCoordinate work priorities with the assembly managerMaintain the equipment inventory for the finish dept. issue and track tool checkoutsEnsure that all Finish equipment is well maintained and kept in working order. Coordinate a preventative maintenance plan with the company's maintenance techKeep min-max material floor bins stocked for the department. Restock supplies as needed from the cage in coordination with the receiving managerSupervise the production of finish samples for the PM staff, maintain a version control numbering system and record all finish processes and recipesMaintain a library of correctly-labeled and approved finish samples for all projectsOnce samples are approved work with the PM dept to estimate qty of finish material needed for projects and requisition materials to purchasing on time for productionContact vendors to help with technical problems and challenges as they ariseRequisition non min-max supplies for the departmentProject Oversight and Execution:Receive job folders from the assembly and machine manager as they are released and distribute them to the correct staffUpon completion of job folder complete all manufacturing operations and ensure material has been properly issued. Deliver folder to the production plannerEnsure successful project execution within the department, meeting objectives, timelines, and quality standardsCoordinate workflow and resources to maximize efficiency and productivityOverseeday-to-day shop production activities within one's respective area of ownership to ensure that we are meeting or exceeding production expectationsTeam Leadership and Management:All staff of the Finish dept report directly to Finish managerPerform annual reviews for all direct reportsTrain staff on the skills required to work in the finish dept. maintain a system of regular cross training to ensure the company has multiple staff trained on all necessary finish skillsLead, manage, and inspire the department team to perform at their bestProvide guidance, direction, and support to ensure team members are clear on their roles and responsibilitiesMentor and coach team members, focusing on developing their technical and professional skillsIdentify opportunities for training and growth, fostering continuous improvement within the teamWork with the team to train and oversee new employees on-boarding and development, communicating job expectations, appraising contributions and resolving conflicts where and when necessaryResource and Budget Management:Manage departmental resources, including materials, equipment, and personnel, to ensure optimal project outcomesWork within budgetary constraints and provide input on cost-saving opportunitiesMaintain forward awareness of critical production schedule deadlines, anticipating roadblocks and delays to proactively resolve issues in advanceCompliance and Safety Oversight:Always maintain clean and organized workspaces in the departmentOversee the use of correct use of Lock Out tagging for equipment in the departmentAlways be aware of safety practices in real time in the departmentStop any unsafe behavior immediatelyTrain all staff on the company's safety standards and practices upon hiring and refresh the staff oftenPlan ahead with the staff for any material handling that could risk injuriesDiscipline any staff that ignores safety standards and practicesPromote a culture of see something, say something to all staff regarding safetyEnsure department operations comply with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standardsPromote a culture of safety and responsibility within the teamAdhere to safety protocols, including the safe operation of machines and equipment, and report any safety issues or concernsMaintain safe and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with all legal regulations and OSHA requirementsQuality control and Continuous Improvement Initiatives:Receive and inspect incoming material and parts, ensure project specs are metInspect parts produced by Finish department for quality. Promote a culture of QC at the source within the department and hold staff accountable for passing on parts with quality problemsCheck jobs for completeness and proper part labeling before product is advanced to the next deptLead and/or participate in initiatives aimed at improving processes, increasing efficiency, and enhancing the quality of work produced by the departmentObserve fabrication techniques and processes with a careful eye and works to improve themRequired Skills and Abilities:ERP experience preferred but not required, internal development available for the appropriate candidateThe ability to read and understand 3D renderings, digital architectural drawings and custom millwork shop drawingsKnowledge of hardware and materials common in architectural fabricationSubject Matter expert in all areas of FinishCommunication - Effectively conveys accurate information to coworkers, Team Leaders, and supervisors while carrying out tasksReading Comprehension - Understands written sentences and paragraphs in work related documentsQuality Control Analysis - Ability to Examine products, services, or processes to evaluate their qualityEfficiency - Balances quality and timeliness while carrying out shop assignmentsActive Listening - Gives full attention to what other people are saying, takes time to understand the points being made, asks questions as appropriateDigital Literacy - Proficient in use of electronic communication Email and Microsoft teams, Microsoft office suite, as well as the company's payroll and HR software platformsKnowledge of different materials and their handling requirementsAttention to detail and commitment to precisionProblem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues as they arisePhysical stamina and the ability to lift and handle materialsSafety-conscious mindsetPhysical Requirements:The ability to stand continuously for up to 2 hours at a timeThe ability to lift up to 75 lbs. frequently and repeatedlyVisual AcuityManual Dexterity
