Job Description

Location: Columbus, NE or Remote (with travel as needed) Reports to: Director of PreconstructionThe Estimator plays a key role in supporting accurate, efficient, and competitive preconstruction efforts across a variety of construction projects. This position contributes to the development of reliable budgets, bids, and material take-offs by assisting with cost analysis, scope and design review, and vendor and subcontractor coordination. The Estimator helps ensure that all budgetary data is organized, complete, and aligned with project goals"”reducing risk and supporting successful project execution. Working closely with the Preconstruction Manager and project teams, the Estimator promotes process consistency, fosters team collaboration, and demonstrates a strong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.Core Responsibilities1. Project Design & Scope ReviewAssist the Preconstruction Manager (PCM) in reviewing project scope and design documentation.Support identification and resolution of gaps or inconsistencies in project scope.2. Estimating & Budget DevelopmentHelp gather and organize scopes of work, blueprints, and specifications.Analyze basic labor, material, and time requirements to assist with preliminary estimates.Distribute Requests for Quotes (RFQs) to vendors and trade partners.Collect, log, and maintain organized records of bid responses and documentation.Enter cost data accurately into estimating spreadsheets and tools under supervision.Support bid review processes and help prepare comparison reports.3. Bid Execution & Material ProcurementAssist with reviewing vendor quotes and material take-offs for completeness.Help ensure correct coding of materials, subcontractors, and phase breakdowns.Coordinate subcontractor information handoff to Project Managers for contract preparation.Collaborate with the PCM to compare vendor bids and contribute to vendor selection.Support the conversion of estimates into actionable orders with the purchasing team.4. Project Support & ReviewProvide assistance in compiling information for change orders and scope adjustments.Attend project site visits, meetings, and walkthroughs as needed for exposure and experience.Participate in pre- and post-construction meetings alongside senior team members.Support financial review processes to identify improvement opportunities for future projects.5. Learning & DevelopmentEmbrace opportunities to develop technical knowledge and estimating skills.Collaborate actively with team members and ask questions to support continuous growth.Stay informed about industry trends, tools, and best practices through training and research.Qualifications1-3 years of experience in construction estimating, project coordination, or a related role.Basic understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and building processes.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.Effective communication and collaboration skills.Willingness to learn in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Key CompetenciesAccuracy and detail-orientation - Committed to producing high-quality work.Analytical mindset - Able to work with numbers and identify cost variables.Time management - Capable of juggling priorities and meeting deadlines.Team collaboration - Works well with others and contributes positively to team success.Communication - Clear and professional interaction with internal teams and vendors.Initiative - Shows a desire to grow and take on more responsibility over time.Work Environment & Physical RequirementsHybrid or remote work model available, based on location and project needs.Occasional travel to project sites for assessments, reviews, or training.Site visits may require walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs or ladders, and accessing confined areas.Key Attributes for SuccessA high level of attention to detail is essential to produce accurate estimates and prevent costly errors.
