The Operations Manager – Hydro Excavation provides strategic and hands-on leadership for daily field operations, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-performing service delivery in underground utility work. This role is responsible for driving operational efficiency, developing field teams, and maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. With expertise in hydro excavation practices and a strong grasp of regulatory requirements, the ideal candidate will lead cross-functional crews, manage budgets, and build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. This position is essential for scaling operations, optimizing resource utilization, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement across service areas.ResponsibilitiesLead and oversee the daily operations of assigned departments, ensuring optimal workforce scheduling and efficient utilization of company assets.Ensure adherence to all safety protocols, quality standards, and client-specific requirements; track and report incidents, damages, and claims.Analyze departmental financial statements and implement strategies to improve profitability across all operational units.Support the General Manager/Director in developing, managing, and monitoring the annual operating and capital expenditure budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities.Ensure timely and accurate completion of all operational and client-required documentation.Align day-to-day operations with the organization’s business goals, financial objectives, and long-term strategies.Facilitate effective meetings and presentations with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.Build and develop high-performing teams by recruiting, training, mentoring, and empowering a skilled and diverse workforce.Enforce fleet policies while driving vehicle utilization strategies and reducing lifecycle costs.Ensure full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OQ, EPA, OSHA, PUC); conduct regular performance and qualification evaluations.Stay informed of industry trends and emerging technologies through participation in professional forums and industry groups.Oversee material inventory processes, ensuring accurate tracking, reporting, and timely procurement to support field operations.Manage vendor contracts and service agreements, safeguarding the company’s operational and financial interests.Prepare cost estimates and proposals for new and ongoing projects.Champion continuous improvement efforts in safety, productivity, quality, and cost-efficiency.Travel overnight as required to support field operations across service areas.Provide coaching, performance feedback, and, when necessary, corrective action to support team growth and accountability.Qualifications3+ years of experience in a similar roleProficiency with Microsoft OfficeStrong organizational and communication skillsStrong ability to multitaskComfort working with multiple groups within business
