We hope youll consider joining us.Job Description:The Assistant Vice President - Controller is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing Sienas accounting operations within a complex, fund-based, non-profit environment. Reporting directly to the CFO/Vice President for Finance & Administration, this role ensures financial integrity, compliance, and operational excellence while supporting Sienas mission and strategic goals.Key Responsibilities:Accounting OperationsPayroll Oversight: Lead payroll operations to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.Accounts Payable: Supervise the A/P process, ensuring proper documentation, accuracy, and timely vendor payments.Endowment Accounting: Manage the accounting for endowed funds, ensuring compliance with donor restrictions and applicable regulations.Property, Plant, & Equipment (PP&E): Oversee fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, and physical asset tracking.Audit & ComplianceAudit & 990 Coordination: Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors, overseeing annual financial audits, preparation of Form 990, and all other reporting requirements.Internal Control Oversight: Design and enforce robust internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure compliance.Financial Reporting & Close ProcessesMonthly Close & Reconciliations: Direct monthly financial close processes, ensuring timely reconciliations and accurate financial statements.Grant Accounting/Reporting: Manage accounting and reporting for grants, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and donor restrictions.Gift Accounting: Manage all gift accounting, including split-interest agreements. Maintain compliance with donor restrictions and funding requirements.Strategic Leadership & CollaborationCollaborate with academic and administrative departments across the College to align financial practices with institutional goals.Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals and associates, fostering a culture of collaboration and professional development.Deliver clear, actionable financial insights to key stakeholders, including the Board of Trustees, President, Leadership Team, and Governance Committees.Policy & Best PracticesDevelop and enforce financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and funder directives.Identify and implement industry best practices to enhance operational efficiency.Annual Salary Range: $136,500.00 -$150,000.00The hiring salary above represents the Colleges good faith estimate at the time of posting in compliance with the Albany County Salary Transparency LawMinimum Requirements:Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related field. In-depth knowledge of GAAP accounting and non-profit financial compliance;10+ years accounting experience in Higher Education or a non-profit organization of similar complexity.3+ years of experience managing accounting teams and fostering collaboration across departments;Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);Strong ability to convey complex financial information to diverse stakeholders effectively;The ability to work independently, yet recognize situations that call for informed input is required;The ability to prioritize multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines, and to work additional hours outside of regular business hours and weekends as required;Preferred Requirements:Masters degree in Accounting or related fieldExperience with Banner or a similarly complex ERP systemCPAA background screening will be required.Additional Information:Benefits:Siena College offers a generous benefit package to eligible full-time employees.
