Position Highlights & Responsibilities The Infectious Disease Physician serves as a consultant to other physicians for patients with infectious diseases in outpatient and/or hospital-based settings. Clinical Expertise & Patient Care Expert in history taking, physical examination, test interpretation, patient counseling, differential diagnosis, and medical therapeutics Responsible for Infectious Disease diagnosis and treatment decisions for outpatient-related patient care Supervision and management, where appropriate, of patients transitioning from hospital to outpatient care Initiation and supervision of home IV therapies Continuity outpatient clinics Leadership, Quality & Collaboration Accountable to the Associate Medical Specialty Director for ensuring effective care delivery while meeting and exceeding compliance standards Antibiotic stewardship in collaboration with the P&T Committee Supervision of Infectious Disease purchased services Education of clinical staff on infectious disease diagnosis and treatment Liaison with: Wound Care Medical Director of Hospital Services Participation in regular meetings with Associate Medical Directors Virtual & Indirect Patient Care Virtual health services related to Infectious Diseases, including: Virtual visits Telephone consults Virtual consults Video curbside consults Availability for telephone and e-consults during regular business hours Indirect patient care responsibilities, including: Returning patient calls and responding to patient emails Reviewing and renewing prescriptions Reviewing laboratory and imaging results Communicating results to patients Supporting quality improvements in care delivery systems Scheduling Office hours structured to meet patient demand (time and location to be determined) What Makes an Optum Career Different?
