Summary/Objective: NOTE: This is a full time, in office position. Work from home flexibility may be possible once the new manager is established. Must be living in the Richmond area or willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is possible!The Fire Protection Design Manager will be responsible for general supervision of all design/BIM aspects of our new construction sprinkler projects.Essential Functions:Responsible for project management duties for each project and/or delegation to appropriate team memberReviews design drawings for compliance with NFPA codes and project specificationsReviews material submittals for compliance with NFPA codes and project specificationsReviews hydraulic calculations for compliance with NFPA codes and project specificationsReviews and procures all material stock lists for construction projectsCoordinates material delivery with customer and field superintendentSupervises designer's tasks and schedulesReviews designer drawings to comply with department standardMonitors design hours for profitability/efficientlySupervises field measuring process with designersParticipates in regularly scheduled department meetings to review progress on current projects and future project needsAssists FP sales team with bid take off as neededCoordinates and resolves design conflicts with field superintendentConducts job "kick-off" meetings for superintendent and field crewsCoordinates regular FP department meetingsReviews and approves vendor material invoices for constructionCoordinates permit process with local Authority Housing Jurisdiction (AHJ)Coordinates and reviews shop drawing process with A/EMaintains "design" file for each construction projectCoordinates with FP service staff for small/day work projectsEnsures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed and brings problems to supervisor, safety, or HRPerforms other duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibility: Yes Required: 7 - 10 years of experience in fire protection and/or equivalent combination of vocational training and experiencePrior supervisor/management experienceNICET Level II certificationUnderstanding of NFPA and local authorities' jurisdiction requirementsAbility to interpret architect drawings/specificationsProficient in Windows-based CAD, AutoCAD design software or other fire protection design softwareDemonstrated mechanical aptitude and spatial orientation aptitude and skillsStrong computer skills including Microsoft Office, MS Word and ExcelExcellent organizational and communication skills with attention to detailStrong negotiation and problem resolution skillsMust be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail, and demonstrate problem-solving skillsMust have a satisfactory driving record, criminal record, and ability to pass a drug screenMust be available to work assigned scheduleThe work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following: Work Environment:Works in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipmentPosition may require visits to construction sitePhysical Demands:This role routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power toolsTravel:May require travel (typically not overnight)Preferred: Prior military experienceFire Protection Design , Fire Protection Design , Fire Protection Design , Fire Protection Design , Fire Protection Design , Fire Protection Design , Fire Protection Design , Fire Protection Design , Fire Protection Design , Fire Protection Design
