Our Rehabilitation Department is seeking a full time Vocational Evaluator/Career Counselor. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in career services, counseling, human services or related field. Experience in working with people with disabilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Minimum of one year experience in job development with a track record of successful placements. Must have a current list of employer contacts with recent placement history. Ability to use basic computer software including Internet search, word processor and database programs in a Windows environment. Position Summary: The Vocational Evaluator/Career Counselor will provide employment services to teens and adults with vision impairments. Specifically, this individual will work with consumers in all aspects of vocational preparation, including securing internship sites, writing resumes, preparing for job interviews, teaching appropriate work behaviors, performing job analyses, meeting with employers, assisting with job searches, etc. Services will take place in the agency as well as in the field. This position includes performing assessments, leading work readiness groups, and developing relationships with businesses in the community. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: With consumers and sponsoring agencies, develop and implement a career plan that maximizes consumer's vocational success. Provide case management services to ensure continuity and timeliness of services consistent with Lighthouse Guild and sponsoring agency requirements. Train consumers in job seeking and job retention skills. Identify and develop employment opportunities in varied community settings. Assess work sites and job responsibilities to recommend job modifications and on-site support. Secure technical assistance, as appropriate, from assistive technology specialists for adaptive equipment evaluation, installation, and software modification and/or adaptation. Provide instruction in resume writing, interviewing skills, job search skills and work-related communication skills. Establish work experience training (WET) opportunities and internships for consumers with limited work experiences. Place consumers in competitive jobs in the community. Maintain accurate records to meet both Lighthouse Guild and contractor requirements on a timely basis. Communicate regulate with Lighthouse Guild supervisors, administrative and career services staff, sponsors and consumers to ensure successful employment outcomes. Perform any other career services assignments as designated by supervisors. Responsible for maintaining the privacy of patient, client or protected member health information.
