Assist the campers with behavior, communication, social skills, dietary/medical and personal needs. Support the camp counselor as needed inside and outside of the classroom. Be prepared to potentially commute to two camp locations, one in Milwaukie and one in Park Rose.Seasonal position: Paid training from June 23rd to June 27th, work beginning June 30th and ending August 20th (52 days)Possible opportunity for year-round work depending on client load and performanceREQUIREMENTS:18+ years of ageDiploma or GED or currently enrolled in equivalent programValid First Aid/CPR Certification (employer provides a class at employees' expense)PREFERRED:Six months or more of familiarity and experience working with individuals of all ages who have ASDBilingual Spanish or RussianJOB DUTIES:Always ensure the safety and security of all campers while they are under our careAlways represent us in a highly professional mannerEffectively serve the needs of individuals with ASD in the group and in community settingsAssist campers with behavior, communication, social skills, dietary/medical and personal needsAssist camp counselors to work toward goals and objectives for individual campersVerify that the camper has items needed for the day, and that they are returned at the end of the dayParticipate in daily activities and outingsCommunicate absences or tardiness as soon as possibleGather and prepare camper materials for each dayKeep track of your campers' belongings including HOP and A cardsOrganize a camper Trip Book if neededUse visuals and strategies as directed, provided, and modeled by the camp counselorImplement strategies to achieve individual campers' goals and objectivesRecord daily camper attendanceHelp clean up and sanitize the room at the end of every dayWrite in the campers' communication journal before they go homeFill out camper notes before you leave for the dayComplete and/or assist with completion of required documentation regarding incidents, complaints, or suspected abuseSupport camp counselor in resolving informal complaintsMaintain effective communication with the camp counselorProvide first aid as required for campers or other staff membersReport suspected harassment or discrimination to supervisor or managementRead and follow all our policies and proceduresComply with our dress codeBe prepared to walk 2 to 5 miles daily and participate in swimming activities. Including bringing the appropriate swimwear every dayReview camper cliff notes and profiles dailyBe on time on scheduled workdaysBe dependable, honor your commitmentsFollow proper communication procedures, utilizing the supervisor as the first point of contact regarding scheduling, pay, or other issuesOther duties as requiredHOURS:Between 2-5 days a week depending on your desire and experience (5 days/week can be difficult work)PAY:$18-$20/hour Depending On ExperienceEMPLOYER COMMENTS:Camp Assistants WILL be:Walking 2-5 miles daily, using public transit, carrying a backpack with lunches and other items, possibly pushing a wheelchairVisiting and swimming in public swimming pools once a week or moreProviding campers with assistance in toileting and diaperingExposed to campers experiencing seizures due to medical conditions
