Consolidated Precision Products (CPP), an aerospace and defense manufacturing company, has an immediate need for a Materials Lab Manager to join our team! Summary:  Perform timely, accurate and complete material testing and reporting to internal and external customers.  Provide technical leadership in the areas of metallurgical pursuit at CPP-Syracuse.  Provide day to day supervision and oversight of Lab employees and develop employees in areas of need. Maintain NADCAP accreditation for the Materials Lab and the welding process at CPP-Syracuse. Essential Job Functions:  Work closely with all lab technicians to ensure all specifications and procedures are followed.  Establish and maintain lab practices that meet or exceed customer requirements. Be a leader of change in continuously pursuing internal and external opportunities for improvement with a focus on reducing process variation through the collection and analysis of data, identification of the root cause of variation, and development of effective corrective actions. Research new lab techniques and processes focused on reducing costs and improving new and existing practices. Work closely with the rest of the Engineering community in establishing processes that meet the metallurgical requirements of product and improve productivity throughout the manufacturing processes Interface with the Manufacturing personnel regarding defect identification, root cause analysis, and effective corrective action. Provide technical support and oversight necessary to maintain control of our internal and external welding, heat treating, HIPing, coating, and other metallurgical processes. Provide technical support during part quotations and the review of drawings and specifications as needed. Provide technical support to all necessary customer and supplier communications dealing with metallurgical issues of product. Service the customer needs in the areas of metallurgical questions and concerns and general good will. Qualifications:  Education: BS in Metallurgy/Materials Engineering is desirable but not required, other engineering disciplines will be considered based on experience/education. Experience: CPP is willing to train a candidate with experience in at least one of the following areas: Familiarity with the investment casting industry and related processes Knowledge of heat treating and mechanical properties of investment castings as well as previous experience in metallography, SEM, and other defect analysis methodologies. Experience maintaining NADCAP accreditation (or similar audited accreditation) Experience managing a system for Welder qualification and weld process qualification for aerospace or other critical application. Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Mathematical Skills - Ability to apply statistical methods in the collection and analysis of data. REASONING ABILITY - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Computer Skills - Knowledge of and ability to use Database software; Internet software; Manufacturing software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
