JOB TITLE: Speech TherapistDEPARTMENT: Speech TherapyREPORTS TO: Related Services CoordinatorAlcott School is a preschool that provides high quality education to all children who attend regardless of their abilities or disabilities. Alcott School is dedicated to helping and supporting the families enrolled in all its programs.GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTIONAll employees must be able to communicate clearly, orally and in writing.All employees must be concerned with the emotional and educational needs of students without regard to race, creed, perceived disabilities or gender.A Speech Therapist is responsible, under the direction of the RS Coordinator, for assessing evaluating and treating children in the assigned caseload. The ST should be able to interact with classroom staff, parents and other service providers to ensure that children are provided with appropriate treatment, according to IEP/IFSP mandates. The ST must attend IFSP/IEP meetings, parent teacher conferences and other similar meetings at the direction of the RS Coordinator. All employees of Alcott School are expected to be fully familiar with and comply with all portions of the Staff Policy Handbook. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAssess children according to IEP/IFSP mandates, with input from classroom staff and other therapists where applicable. Assist in developing future IEP/IFSP goals. Treat children in need of speech therapy, in the classroom or individually as deemed appropriate. Write required daily session notes, progress reports, annual review reports, IEP updates and submit billing according to designated schedules. Work with classroom staff and other providers to coordinate services. Participate in weekly team meetings. Plan and execute one group session weekly. Attend parent conferences when appropriate and offer input, advice, recommendations. Fulfill necessary continuing education requirements.MINOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESWork with Program Coordinators to obtain needed materials or equipment to provide appropriate services. Participate in at least two family activities outside of normal classroom hours. Initiate and implement special Speech activities.QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOBEducation: Master’s Degree as required for certification/licensure; valid NYS license; Certificate of Clinical of Competency from ASHA; TSSLD/TSHH.Registration with NPI and HCS; Experience PreferredKEY COMPETENCIESKnowledgeable in all areas of ST service delivery, including the ability to write reports, monitor services via electronic media. Must be physically able to carry out responsibilities of delivery of ST services, including lifting a child or moving equipment as needed. Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Must be organized and able to function well within a multi-disciplinary setting. Must be skilled in administering audiological screenings, and knowledgeable in various treatment methodologies.All Alcott Staff must possess physical health, strength and stamina necessary to carry out all job responsibilities. This includes, but is not limited to the following:• All staff must be able to lift a 25-35 lb. child if necessary in an emergency.• All staff must be able to run quickly in response to a child in danger of fleeing the area• All staff must be able to visually survey classrooms and playgrounds to observe children for safety and observation purposes.• All staff must be able to bend down to child’s eye level and sit on the floor and get up without assistance• All staff must have adequate hearing to evaluate a child’s language skills, respond to a child’s request, to cries of danger and to the fire alarm.
