A nonprofit organization in New York City is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate professional to join one of their growing family shelters in Brooklyn as a Housing Specialist .About the Opportunity:Start Date: ASAPSchedule: Tuesday to Saturday Hours: 9am-5pm with late night Thursday 1pm-9pmSetting: Family ShelterResponsibilities:Maintain client relationships while ensuring confidentiality.Adhere to Universal Precautions and Standard Protocols.Comply with Federal, State, City, and organizational privacy and security policies.Act as a liaison to external organizations for education, healthcare, housing, and social services.Support clients in achieving housing goals through referrals and community resources.Conduct housing searches, including contacting landlords and exploring listings.Develop and facilitate housing-related workshops and materials.Provide individualized counseling and organize presentations from housing experts.Build connections with community organizations and landlords.Evaluate housing packages and ensure readiness for move-ins, including payments and conditions.Escort clients to housing-related appointments.Follow up post-move to ensure client stability.Conduct intake, needs assessments, and re-evaluations for clients.Maintain and update client files, ensuring documentation compliance.Collaborate with clients to revise independent living plans and address barriers.Monitor client progress through regular meetings and update relevant databases.Document all client interactions and generate required reports.Assist clients with applications for benefits and entitlements.Coordinate with referral organizations to track progressQualifications:Bachelor's Degree or 2 years of experienceFirst Aid / CPR certificationDesired Skills:BilingualCertification in Overdose PreventionPrevious experience in a Shelter setting
