Scottsdale Heart Surgery Center is looking for a proven healthcare nursing leader to join and lead the clinical team as the Director of Nursing at our freshly built Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) located on the campus of HonorHealth Shea in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Director of Nursing will play a dynamic role in the overall clinical operations of the center in this exciting new chapter as the facility prepares to open it's doors over the next few months to provide quality-driven cardiovascular care to the surrounding patient population.Overall Responsibility:This position manages the direction of patient care in the organization. Responsible for clinical staffing and problem resolution. Consults with staff, physicians, regarding nursing problems and interpretation of facility policies and procedures to ensure that patient needs are met. Responsible for staffing, orientation, clinical education, competency evaluation, policies and procedures related to clinical areas. Assists in formulating the operating and capital budgets and ensures efficient and cost-effective use of human and material resources in delivering quality services. Responsible for identification, recommendations, and implementation of improvement plans and/or preventive measures to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory standards to ensure safety within the facility. This position shall lead, facilitate, support, and mentor multidisciplinary teams (including physicians) through the utilization of process improvement methodologies and techniques to ensure high quality deliverance of patient care and compliance with regulatory agencies. The incumbent acts as a change agent to promote care process transformation and drives the transition and changes that lead to improved processes and organizational performance.Key tasks and responsibilities (essential functions)Facilitate and actively participate in the Medical Executive Committee and other designated committees as assigned. Distribute information to clinical staff from each of these committees to ensure a smooth flow of information.Organize all clinical management sub-committees, prepare and receive reports, maintain minutes and makes recommendations to the committee based on best practice and current regulatory standards.Facilitates sub-committees within the Medical Executive Committee to coordinate improvement of care and achievement of the mission of the Facility.Ensures compliance with regulatory boards/state, including, but not limited to ACHC, Medicare, OSHA, Professional societies such as AORN, AAMI, ASPAN and the State Health Department in conjunction with the facility Administrator and Medical Director.Reviews new regulations for updates needed in facility policies and procedures/standards.In conjunction with Facility Administrator prepares for visits from regulatory agencies.Ensures performance of nursing functions in all areas is according to policy and procedure.Coordinates functions of the departments including supervision of personnel, evaluations, orientation of new employees and current employees to new procedures.Coordinates and manages all aspects of departmental operations.Fosters growth and development of management and leadership skills in managers and team members.Assists with preparation, monitoring and adherence to annual Facility and operational budgets. Accurately identifies and expeditiously resolves issues affecting the delivery of patient care services.Promotes that the surgical programs and clinical services are in compliance with the respective components of regulatory body and accrediting body standards.Works in conjunction with the Medical Director and Medical Executive Committee in the evaluation and development of existing and new surgical services at the facility.Ensures the appropriate management of the clinical departments of nursing, central supply, medical records, and housekeeping, and supervise the contracted services of laboratory, radiology, pharmaceuticals, laundry and biomedical engineering.Monitors the adequate function of surgical equipment and patient care equipment through contracted services and follows up on repairs.Develops standards of care and performance for services provided and implements a mechanism for the ongoing evaluation and improvement of performance standards.Actively promotes a positive image of facility with the public and professional community.Maintains expertise with computer-based programs and utilizes reports to improve performance and ensures full utilization of system by staff.Assesses own performance using insight and constructive feedback to set goals to enrich knowledge and skills required to perform role.Maintains a positive work environment for staff and physicians which promotes team efforts.Ensures adequate staffing in order to achieve the department’s function and purpose.Ensures performance evaluations are current and reviewed by employees during an annual performance improvement interview.Ensures initial departmental orientation and competency review for newly hired employees, all licenses/credentials certificates for applicable personnel are valid and up to date, ensures all job descriptions for each job classification are in accordance with policy and procedures during an annual human resources interview.Analyzes nursing care provided in the departments related to the established standards of care.Ensures monitoring of the Environment of Care is performed on a daily basis, according to policy.Knowledgeable of proper handling of narcotics, sign-out and return, according to the Facility policies and DEA guidelines.Follows up/investigates all variances in narcotic administration/counting.Demonstrates continued competence in assessing, treating, and caring for individuals based upon age-specific needs utilizing a developmental perspective.Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position.Interacts with all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees in a manner to ensure a positive and professional environment.Licensure and Certification: Licensed as an RN in the state of Arizona. BLS and ACLS required, if not currently certified will obtained within 3 months of hire.Experience required: BSN or Master’s degree in nursing or related discipline preferred. Demonstrated leadership in similar positions will be considered in lieu of master’s degree. 2 – 5 years of management experience required. 5 – 7 years of management experience preferred. Cath experience and EP experience required.Environmental and physical requirements - The employee works in a temperature-controlled environment. There is a potential for contact with chemicals, blood borne pathogens, and exposure to infectious disease.
