Position: Director Coding, Revenue CycleClient: Large Provider ClientLocation: Hybrid – Houston, TXType: Direct PlacementPosition OverviewThe Director of Coding is responsible for leading system-wide coding operations across all Houston Methodist facilities. This includes managing inpatient/outpatient coding, DRG/APC assignments, data abstraction, and ensuring quality, compliance, and efficiency in coding functions. The role contributes to strategic planning and optimization of coding processes, team performance, and overall operational excellence.Key Responsibilities by AreaLeads and develops a high-performing team through coaching, performance reviews, staffing decisions, and engagement efforts.Facilitates cross-department collaboration to drive efficiency and improve outcomes.Fosters a positive, accountable team culture.Oversees daily department operations and prioritizes tasks to meet organizational goals.Sets and maintains high service standards, participating in committees and stakeholder initiatives.Ensures coding accuracy and compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.Leads performance improvement initiatives and ensures safe, effective work environments.Oversees audits, ensures corrective actions, and maintains staff credentials and compliance.Manages operational and capital budgets.Aligns staffing, productivity, and resource use with cost-efficiency goals.Ensures timely coding for billing and data accuracy.Drives system improvements, workflow enhancements, and new system implementations.Leads change management efforts and represents the department in various forums.Promotes professional development for self and staff.QualificationsRequired: Bachelor’s degree, Master's degree preferredRequired: 8+ years in the field, with at least 2 years in a leadership roleCCS, RHIA, RHIT, or CPC (for ambulatory settings)Skills & CompetenciesStrong leadership, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skillsAdvanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT/HCPCS, DRG/APC systems, and medical terminologyProficiency with coding software, Microsoft Office, and healthcare information systemsEffective communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities
