Roles and Responsibilities: Directs all Maintenance of Equipment (M of E) activities at field locations in the Newark and Hoboken divisions. Responsible for providing day-to-day equipment availability for daily train service by ensuring that all Rail rolling stock receives the appropriate tests and necessary field repairs while the outlying locations. Develops, initiates and directs the proper staff, training, and field support infrastructure for new service initiatives and Federal mandates, such as qualified maintenance personnel, as well as addressing the needs of an increased fleet. Represents the Mechanical Department regarding issues such as the upgrade of existing or building of new facilities for new services, enhanced service or in response to Federal regulations. Attends commuter group and county transportation advisory board forums. Responds to all derailments, catenary problems and other emergencies and represents the Mechanical Department as a committee member when necessary to determine incident causes. Responsible for ensuring that all field locations comply with Federally mandated or NJ TRANSIT standard maintenance procedures and requirements. Serves as liaison to Metro-North staff concerning the administration of M of E portion of the joint services agreement. Represents the Mechanical Department in personnel issues such as Section VI's negotiations and other collective bargaining agreement issues. Education, Experience and Qualifications:  Baccalaureate Degree in Transportation, Business Administration or related area Ten (10) years of rolling stock maintenance experience, including increasingly responsible management experience to include direct supervision of agreement and non-agreement employees. One (1) year of closely related experience may be substituted for each year of Education required.
