Safety and Compliance Manager

Overview: Interstate Waste Services in Danbury, CT is looking for an experienced Saftey and Compliance Manager in the waste and recycling, or transportation / truck driving fields.  The Safety Manager is responsible for implementing and overseeing all health and safety programs across solid waste collection, transfer, recycling and disposal operations within their market.  This role ensures that on-site facility and route activities are compliant with federal, state, and local safety and transportation policies and regulations. Safety Managers will report to the Market Area Safety Director. Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.: Program ComplianceDevelop and enforce safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA, DOT, and local regulations.Conduct regular observations and inspections to ensure that all safety practices, programs, record keeping, and other related activities are being followed and performed to company, customer, and regulatory standards. Assist the frontline, managers, and supervisors to properly understand potential hazards, areas of improvement, and compliance requirementsTraining & EducationConduct/ Participate in market level safety stand-downs and training, meetings as needed.Lead safety training programs for drivers, equipment operators, and facility staff.Organize drills and simulations for emergency preparedness.Incident ManagementInvestigate accidents, near-misses, and safety violations.Prepare detailed reports, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.Participate and lead Incident Review Team meetings as needed.Assist in managed care of injuries.Risk MitigationIdentify potential hazards and implement proactive measures to reduce risk.Oversee the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure proper usage.Collaborate with operations to ensure safe routing, loading, and disposal practices.Regulatory Reporting & DocumentationMaintain accurate records of inspections, training, and incidents.Monitor training records for compliance with existing procedures to ensure that depots/facilities are keeping employees current with the required programs.Leadership & CultureDemonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas. Promote a safety-first culture across all levels of the marketProvide coaching and support to supervisors and frontline employees.Participate in safety committees and cross-functional teams. Additional Information: Candidates should possess 3-5 years of experience, preferably in sanitation/ solid waste, transportation, or industrial operations. Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and federal/state/ local Health & Safety and Transportation compliance regulations.Good analytical and organizational skills with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment. Excellent ability to communicate, collaborate, and partner with Operations to ensure safe operations across our sites.Must be able to respond to emergencies outside of regular business hours.Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plusValid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between sites within the market. Frequent travel to field operations and transfer stationsProficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite. Salary Range Minimum: USD $80,000.00/Yr. Salary Range Maximum: USD $90,000.00/Yr.
