OverviewAs a health care professional, the incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to, managing the processes involved in performing respiratory therapy, ventilator management, ECG, oxygen administration and airway management QualificationsCertifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA)American Heart Association (AHA); Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)American Heart Association (AHA); Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR); Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA)American Heart Association (AHA),Education: Associate's Degree: Respiratory Therapy (Required),Work Experience: Respiratory therapy ResponsibilitiesPERFORMS PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES TO INCLUDE ALL FORMS OF RESPIRATORY THERAPY, NON-INVASIVE CARDIOLOGY, AND OTHER ASSIGNED DUTIES UTILIZING APPLICABLE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.Interprets and executes physician ordersDemonstrates the ability to individualize therapy to meet the patient's needDemonstrates the ability to anticipate the patient needsDemonstrates the ability to calculate medication dosagesPerforms patient educationPerforms all duties in an efficient and timely mannerNotify leader of respiratory care, nursing supervisor, or unit leader of any inappropriate patient care issuesDocuments all medication and patient care errorsUses protective equipment appropriatelyPerforms intubations and change tracheostomy tubes as assignedPractices good body mechanics, getting assistance as needed to protect patient and own safetyRemains alert and responsive to all alarms/call lightsFollows proper hand washing and infection control between patients and proceduresPerforms testing in a manner that ensures accurate results.Maintains a clean work area, checks and stocks supplies in their specific area.Performs oxygen roundsPerforms accurate DAU and BAT testing as assigned. ( Methodist only)Responds to all pages and requests in a timely mannerPerforms home care instructions and arrange for home oxygen, nebulizer, and/or suction equipmentResponds to emergency situations, RRT calls and codes immediatelyRemains calm and effective in emergency and/or stressful situationsEnsures patient safety in the hospital environment by following policy/procedures and adhering to National Patient Safety GoalsPossesses knowledge and skills necessary to obtain adequate lab specimens for testing.Performs patient bedside lab testing (ABGs) and associated quality control in compliance with medical provider's orders and hospital lab procedures/policiesPERFORMS VENTILATOR MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCEMaintains knowledgeable of all modes of ventilation and a weaning modalitiesResponds promptly to urgent needsUses protective equipment appropriatelyParticipates in patient rounds with physicians if assignedPerforms ventilator checks every 2 hours and PRNSets appropriate ventilator alarms within recommended parametersEducates students and other health professionals about ventilator functionsDocuments ventilator settings and patient information accuratelyActs as patient advocatePractices appropriate patient assessment skills to evaluate patient needsContacts physicians to improve patient careContacts physicians concerning ventilator settingsCollaborates with appropriate healthcare worker concerning patient care issuesSets-up, verifies proper function, operates, and monitors ventilators, BIPAP and CPAPMAINTAINS ACCURATE DOCUMENTATION AND ACCURATE COMPUTER ENTRYCompletes documentation of all therapy, ventilator, and oxygenCompletes documentation on all internal formsDocuments complete and accurate charge entry dailyCompletes accurate information on all ECGsPerforms editing of ECGs accurately when assignedDocuments on all diagnostic testsASSUMES RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS/HER ONGOING PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENTLearns the functions of all new equipmentLearns new proceduresKnowledgeable of departmental policies and proceduresCompletes all mandatory education within the stated timeframeAttends educational offerings to validate skillsMaintain current knowledge of all equipmentMaintain current licenseMaintain current credentialsActs as a resource person for othersParticipates in clinical instruction of students and other healthcare workers About UsFind it here.Discover the job, the career, the purpose you were meant for. Compensation and BenefitsThe compensation range for this position is $29.78per hour - $51.22per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
