These specialized snowcat operators function as the logistics crew for our snowmaking team during the early season. Once snowmaking production is complete, these operators work on our slope grooming team for the remainder of the season. This position requires extensive physical work and precision snowcat operation in the transportation of snowmaking equipment. A good attitude, solid work ethic and problem-solving skills are required to be successful in this position. This position has potential for year-round employment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Snowmaking duties include:Pre and post operational checks of snowcats and other equipmentCommunicating any equipment issues with the heavy equipment mechanicsReceive daily assignments from the Slope Maintenance managers/supervisorsUnderstand the daily snowmaking objectivesSafe operation of all equipmentTransport fan guns and other snowmaking equipment with a snowcat, in such a way as to prevent damage to the snowcat or the snowmaking equipmentBuild snow platforms for staging of snowmaking equipmentKeep fan guns clear of snow and on top of the snow surfaceMaintain safe travel routes for snowmaking crewsDoze snowmaking piles as necessaryWork with snowmaking crews to setup trails with hoses/gunsAssist with the operation of snowmaking equipmentTrack pack trails prior to snowmaking productionOther snowmaking duties as assignedMaintain a positive attitude throughout the seasonGrooming duties include:Pre and post operational checks of snowcats and other equipmentParticipation in nightly team meetingUnderstand the nightly snow management objectivesSafe operation of slope grooming equipmentCompletion of dozing and grooming of assigned trailsRepairing/communicating any trail issues such as rocks or thin spotsCompletion of other snowcat projects as assignedFueling of equipment using safe practicesMaintaining accurate logs on equipment usedCommunicating any equipment issues with the heavy equipment mechanicsHousekeeping of work areas/shop areas/equipmentPerformance of other duties as directed.This job description is an overview of the scope of responsibilities and is not intended to be an inclusive list of job tasks and expectations. With the evolution of this resort and position, the responsibilities of this position may change.KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:Valid, non-restricted motor vehicle driver's licenseMinimum 2 years of snowcat experience, strongly preferredSnowmaking experience, preferredSkiing/ riding ability, preferredReliable transportation to/from work at hours outside normal business hoursPunctuality and ability to meet assigned work schedule Ability to work night hours, weekends and holidaysFirst aid training, preferredPHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:This position is required to work evenings and/or overnight, weekends and holidays while in operation. Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position a minimum of 60 pounds on an occasional basis, and a minimum of 20 pounds on a frequent basis. Ability to work for extended periods of time while seated. Manual dexterity to operate hand tools such as shovels and basic mechanic's tools. Ability to work outside in ANY AND ALL weather conditions, including but not limited to rain, snow, sleet, high winds, and cold temperatures. Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees. The range listed is just one component of Winter Park Resorts total compensation package for employees.
