(Scroll down to the "Caring for You" section) POSITION SUMMARY: Food and Beverage employees at Arapahoe Basin are committed to creating "a day worth repeating" for our guests by ensuring legendary service and food quality throughout our Food and Beverage outlets.The Sous Chef is responsible for supporting the Executive Chef in all aspects of kitchen operations, including food preparation, staff supervision, inventory control, and ensuring high standards of quality and safety. The Sous Chef plays a key role in labor management, maintaining operational efficiency, and fostering a professional and productive kitchen environment. WAGE: The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high end of Arapahoe Basin's hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, and responsibilities. The range listed is just one component of Arapahoe Basin's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include many region-specific benefits.Hourly pay range: $24.25 - $35.25 ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Act as the Manager on Duty (MOD) in the absence of the Chef.Train, supervise, and mentor kitchen staff at all levels.Enforce kitchen standards, scheduling, and team accountability.Conduct staff evaluations and assist with disciplinary actions, including terminations if necessary.Assist the Chef with scheduling and staffing to ensure proper coverage based on business needs.Monitor daily labor to ensure efficiency and cost control.Adjust staffing levels as needed to meet fluctuating business demands.Assist in planning, preparing, and executing all food menu items.Ensure all dishes meet high-quality and consistency standards.Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen operation.Quickly resolve issues and take initiative in high-pressure situations.Monitor and manage food inventory and kitchen supplies.Uphold FIFO (First-In, First-Out) rotation and labeling for food quality assurance.Ensure compliance with health, sanitation, and safety regulations.Promote a positive, respectful, and team-oriented kitchen culture.Achieve and maintain budgeted food and labor cost goals.Input and manage monthly inventory counts.Adhere to and be a leader in A-Basin Sustainability efforts for waste, compost, and recycling.Perform other tasks as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 2 years of kitchen management experience preferred.Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and purchasing systems.Strong leadership and organizational skills.Advanced knife skills and proficiency with all kitchen equipment.Solid knowledge of cooking methods and ingredients.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.Attention to detail and consistency across tasks and shifts.Strong team collaboration and communication abilities.Availability to work weekends, holidays, and peak business hours.Highly reliable and responsible with a team-focused mindset.Ability to remain calm, courteous, and professional under pressure.Guest-focused and service-oriented. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Culinary degree or formal training preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to stand and walk for 8+ hours.Must be able to bend, twist, kneel, push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.Comfortable walking up and down stairs frequently.Capable of working in high-altitude conditions.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily- reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. WORKING CONDITIONS: Primary work location is a high-altitude kitchen with frequent use of kitchen equipment and cleaning tools.Some duties may require working outdoors in cold, snowy conditions.Work involves close coordination with kitchen staff in a high-traffic area.Use of a chairlift may be required to access certain work areas.This job description is not an exhaustive list of all functions and responsibilities that an employee may be required to perform in this position.
