Job SummaryThe Senior Director of Nursing Patient Care Operations guides and supports pediatric nursing practice and patient care operational leaders across a wide range of nursing, patient care, and clinical programs. This role provides efficient and effective management of the Department of Nursing and leads the development and execution of its strategic plan. The Senior Director partners with hospital leadership, management, medical staff, and clinical areas in decision-making processes related to patient care programs, policies, and the hospital’s overall plan for delivering patient care.The Senior Director embodies Boston Children’s Hospital’s core values in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.Key Responsibilities Determine and develop strategic nursing and interdisciplinary programs that align with the mission, values, and goals of Boston Children’s Hospital.Develop and implement equitable criteria and processes for staff selection, evaluation, promotion, and termination within designated areas of responsibility, ensuring compliance with system standards.Create strategies that foster the cultural change necessary to advance nursing practice across the continuum of care.Ensure continuous compliance with all applicable regulatory bodies (e.g., The Joint Commission, CMS, Department of Public Health). Oversee compliance with nursing policies, standards of patient care, and nursing practice.Develop and evaluate budgets, administrative strategies, and systems to support clinical programs.Provide leadership and oversight to individuals and workgroups, fostering a culture of quality improvement and accountability to achieve desired outcomes.Create and sustain an environment that fosters excellence, sensitivity, leadership, and mentorship. Anticipate and prepare for knowledge needs required for complex multi-system change.Provide leadership for the development of and/or participation in studies, research, publications, and professional presentations.Collaborate with senior leaders to shape and advance the organizational mission and vision. Direct the integration of nursing and nursing-related activities in the achievement of shared organizational goals.Enhance the quality and effectiveness of the facility’s overall health care program by coordinating and advancing patient care operations.Required Qualifications Current Massachusetts state licensure as a Registered Nurse.Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN/MS) required; doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, DNSc, or DNP) preferred, with demonstrated clinical data management skills.Minimum of 10 years of RN experience, including at least 8 years of leadership in a complex, research-intensive, academic clinical setting; pediatric nursing leadership strongly preferred.Advanced analytical skills to resolve scientific, clinical, human resources, legal, financial, or administrative challenges requiring innovative solutions.Proven ability to develop financial and operational plans for large hospital departments/divisions.Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage staff effectively and collaborate with senior leaders, peer department heads, and external agencies.Strong strategic planning, decision-making, and communication skills, with a track record of advancing patient care and operational excellence in academic health care.
