The Emissions System Pre-Development Calibration Engineer in the Medium and High Emissions and Aftertreatment (MHED) Group will be responsible for developing and integrating system technologies including engine hardware, exhaust sensors, control strategies, calibration, and the integration of these technologies into the propulsion system to meet upcoming emissions standards (e.g., TIER4, California LEV IV, EURO7, China 6, etc.) for future vehicle propulsion applications for gasoline internal combustion (ICE) and hybrid vehicles. Projects will utilize engine, powertrain, vehicle chassis dynamometers and/or simulation/modeling to make physics-based decisions and demonstrate proof-of-concept solutions to prove Propulsion functional objectives are satisfied. The engineer act as both an individual contributor and as part of teams within and outside of the MHED group. MHED interacts with core engine, controls, regulatory teams as part of a globally integrated Emissions and Aftertreatment group as part of the larger Propulsion Calibration (PCAL) Group. The Emissions System Development Engineer will have the following responsibilities: Developing/modifying calibration and control concepts to support future emissions regulations activities such as three-way catalyst (TWC) and gasoline particulate design (GPF) Diagnosing emission trace data and emission vehicle issues on test vehicles to support product development Direct/Schedule day-to-day activities of engine/PT dynamometer or vehicle-based testing, which may include interaction with technicians and support engineers Develop emissions systems solutions for future powertrains including system trade-offs for cost, performance, complexity, etc., while meeting all quality and regulatory requirements Define and direct multiple externally based technology development projects at external partners to meet the critical needs for emissions system Apply appropriate procedures and methodologies for project management (planning, scheduling, and reporting) to reach project deliverables including use of tools such as: MS Project, Excel, etc. This position will report directly to the MHED manager and operate under the general direction of a technical lead.
