Job Description

We are looking for a strong analytical Purchasing Coordinator to join our team in Jacksonville, FL.  JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for purchasing joist/deck complex items where detailed specification is involved. Comply with the scope of application of the ISO 9000 standard. Perform duties consistent with corporate mission, guiding principles, and divisional objectives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Govern all joist/deck purchasing activities and establish policies concerning the joist/deck procurement of materials and supplies. Ensure the constant exploration of new purchasing sources, products, materials, processes, and ideas and ensure all the information is available to needed departments. As needed, implement changes to specifications or adopt substitutions at the least cost to the company. Assure that purchase sources deliver purchases in quantity and at the price, quality, and time required, and follow up on major purchase orders to ensure delivery on schedule. Seek the advice of the Plant Manager with respect to future production plans, and purchasing and inventory requirements that may arise. Provide advantageous sales of obsolete, damaged, scrap, or excess equipment, materials, and supplies. Administer the ordering and clerical activities involved in purchasing, such as the distribution of bids or inquiries, the receipt of quotations, negotiations, and the receipt and checking of invoices for payment. Keep informed of current laws, rules, and regulations affecting the purchasing and delivery of required materials. Work in collaboration with the Purchasing Supervisor when needed to seek the advice of the Corporate Attorney on the form of major purchase contracts. Manage inventory levels and values to meet but not exceed purchasing activities. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Regular and reliable attendance. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree in business administration, Logistics, or related field, preferred. 1 year of purchasing experience, preferably in the steel industry. Must possess a high degree of integrity and the ability to analyze a variety of problems resulting from the diversified nature of items purchased. Requires mature judgment and initiative and the ability to interface well with other internal departments and with outside suppliers. Working knowledge of the structural steel/joist-deck/girder industry. Extensive communication abilities - both oral and written including the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and the ability to speak effectively with customers. Proficient PC skills to include as a minimum: Excel and MS Word. Strong negotiating skills. Exceptional and proven organizational skills. Occasional travel to vendors. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Frequent communication with others to exchange information. Frequent repetition of motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Frequent moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Occasional adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions. Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods. Constant use of computers for prolonged periods. Constantly thinking and processing information. Constantly maintaining concentration and focus on tasks. Seldom required to balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Seldom required to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: General office environment and constant exposure to computer display. Daily interaction with production personnel, Managers, and other staff. May require occasional exposure to the production area with airborne particles, loud noises, and extreme heat and cold. Personal protection equipment is required when entering the manufacturing plant. Occasional travel to local/regional vendor locations.
