We want your knowledge and expertise!Job Summary and QualificationsPOSITION SUMMARY:Provides health care services, applying sound energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Perform ultrasonic imaging and related procedures in all areas of ultrasound. Demonstrates anatomy for interpretation and /or intervention by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Applies appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Applies knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span to identify patient and family requirements relative to age-specific needs.Participates in providing patient-specific care standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Technical Responsibilities· Consistently produces scans of optimal diagnostic quality on patients ranging from Neonatal to Geriatric.· Is knowledgeable and proficient in diagnostic medical sonography.· Demonstrates knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.· Follows established scanning and filming protocols.· Operates the Ultrasound units efficiently and effectively.· Maintains thorough knowledge of the operating parameters of the scanner.· Operates the complex measurement and Doppler programs.· Documents in writing the information seen during or acquired from the patient during the exam.· Completes quality scans in a timely manner, and effectively organizes and prioritizes workflow to meet STAT and urgent demands.· Demonstrates proficiency in scanning trauma, acute & challenging patients; possess skill to modify positioning and scanning factors when a standard cannot be performed.· Relays to Radiologist any relevant patient information.· Possess knowledge of disease processes and images these findings adequately; communicates them to the Radiologist.· Assists physicians in performing invasive exams.· Performs procedures in OR.· Coordinates procedures with other departments· Clinical responsibilities.· Completes required documentation on forms, logs and in computer.· Images are labeled and identified according to protocol.· Obtains all pertinent patient history, and relays it to the Radiologist to assist in diagnosis or treatment.· Reviews written orders, assesses patient identification, and ensures indicators are appropriate prior to the procedure.· Understands the need for a Radiologist or performing physician during invasive procedures, and has good knowledge of biopsy and aspiration supplies including the charges.· Demonstrates preparedness for patient arrest or critically ill patients.· Demonstrates the ability to perform organizational and related duties in Ultrasound.· Functions independently and problem solves effectively, considering alternatives.· Cleans exam tables and restocks Ultrasound supplies as needed or used.· Ensures that procedure rooms are stocked and notifies Senior Tech when supplies need to be ordered.· Sterilizes trans-vaginal transducer according to established protocol.· Follows Patient Care and Safety Policies and Procedures.· Procedures are explained to patients and family in terms they understand, and attempts to clarify any misconceptions. Education is documented.· Maintains awareness of patient safety, patient privacy, confidentiality, and dignity at all times.· Follows Hospital and Department policies for blood and body fluids precautions.· Ensures Ultrasound and department equipment is functioning properly; follows protocol for malfunctions.· Safely transports patients by utilizing the transporting policies.· Maintains a clean organized and safe work environment.· Operates Department patient monitoring devices and equipment.· Adheres to Hospital safety policies, Disaster/Safety Manual, and Dept. Hazard Communication Manual.· Maintains working knowledge of SAMC Hospital codes and related procedures.· Provides full support by performing job-related duties.· Reports to work consistently and on time.· Takes call on a rotating basis. Arrives at SAMC within 30 minutes of receipt of call.· Attends staff meetings. When absent is responsible for obtaining information from meetings.· Displays flexibility and volunteers to work odd or extra shifts when workloads or absences warrant.· Performs clerical responsibilities as required.· Operates any SAMC Hospital computer systems that relate to department operations.· Completes assigned clerical and filing duties for each shift.· Completes the charge processing for individual patient care items, drugs and exams.· Participates in team-building and self-improvement activities.· Accepts change, direction and job counseling in a positive manner, demonstrates the desire to change and improve.· Adjust to peaks and lows while maintaining an effective and efficient manner.· Maintains supportive and cooperative demeanor.· Adheres to HCA/St. David's HealthCare's Patient's First Initiatives up to and including Initial and Annual Code of Conduct, Mandatory Education, and Values Commitment/ICARE Standards.· Employee’s conduct must reflect the Company’s values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct ethics and compliance program.· Employee reflects SDH Service Excellence standards in every interaction.· Other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Required: Must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform all ultrasound procedures including diagnostic, therapeutic, abdominal, vascular, portable, invasive guidance and neonatal exams. Must work well with others in a busy Imaging department. Must be customer oriented to provide outstanding services to patients, physicians, visitors and co-workers. Maintains awareness of patient privacy (HIPAA), confidentiality, and dignity at all times.Must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and St. David’s South Austin Medical Center.Preferred: Computer skills, previous experience in applicable fieldEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Required: A single two-year allied health education program that is patient-care related (Allied health occupations include, but are not limited to, diagnostic medical sonographer, radiologic technologist, respiratory therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist and registered nurse.) OR Graduate of a program accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), United States Department of Education (USDOE) or Canadian Medical Association (CMA), that specifically conducts programmatic accreditation for diagnostic medical sonography/diagnostic cardiac sonography/vascular technology. (Currently (as of 12/2013) the only organizations that offer programmatic accreditation under the aforementioned associations are the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA)); Minimum one year experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer.Preferred: Associates Degree or higher in a related technological field. One year of previous experience as a Radiologic Technician.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:Required:· Credentials with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), RVT certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.· BLS certification as per SDH policyPreferred: Registered Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), post-primary certification in Sonography.
