As part of this esoteric testing lab, our staff gain new experiences with a unique test menu within a culture of quality and innovation, where we focus on lean processes fueled by a belief in empowered continuous improvement. We pride ourselves on a work environment dedicated to mutual respect where trust and team spirit are an integral part of our daily routine.The Core Lab Development Scientist is responsible for independent research and development of new assays in a reference laboratory setting. This position works closely with the Core Scientific Director and Senior R&D Scientist to independently conduct verification/validation studies of novel assays in the core laboratory, maintain launched assays throughout their production life, and lead special projects as required. ResponsibilitiesIndependent research and development of new assays in the Core LabInvestigation of medical necessity, methodology, instrumentation, manufacturer, quality control, and specimen types.Coordinates with manufacturers and other laboratories for validation/verification materialsPerforms validation/verification studies by collecting and analyzing data using statistical methodsInsures proper LIS build, instrument interfacing, and results reporting in collaboration with the interface teamComposes validation plans, summaries, and standard operating proceduresAdheres to defined time line for development of assaysPeriodically maintains, troubleshoots, and reviews assay performance and procedures of launched assays Maintain launched assays through transitionsTransitions current assays on replacement instrument platformsTransitions current assay reagents across different methodologies Utilizes job knowledge, judgment and problem solving skills to ensure qualityFollows established policies and procedures for quality control performance and documentationPerforms and documents scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance on instruments while in R&D phaseIdentifies problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and takes appropriate action, including supervisor notification if indicatedUnderstands and follows all safety, infection controls and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen guidelinesParticipates in departmental quality assurance programsParticipates in the laboratory continuing education program Effectively utilizes departmental resourcesDemonstrates efficiency by performing procedures rapidly and determining priorityUtilizes appropriate supplies with minimal wasteOperates equipment to maximize efficiency and minimize downtimeUtilizes unstructured time constructively Utilizes personal and professional skills to promote laboratory relationsCommunicates with laboratory staff and its clients to ensure quality patient careMaintains and supports a service oriented relationship with affiliate labsRespects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to clients and patientsStrives to maintain a positive work environment Trains and mentors junior R&D staff in technical methods, experimental design, data analysis, and verification/validation composition QualificationsMinimum Education and Experience:B.S. degree in Medical Technology or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science  AND 4 years of pertinent laboratory experienceOR a M.S. degree in Medical Technology or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science AND 3 years of pertinent laboratory experienceCertifications:Preferred: Certified as Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist, by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) OR equivalent certificationScheduled Weekly Hours:40Work Shift:Job Category:Laboratory OperationsCompany:Sonic Reference Laboratory, IncSonic Healthcare USA is an equal opportunity employer that celebrates diversity and is committed to an inclusive workplace for all employees.
