Department/Unit:Trauma/Surgery DepartmentWork Shift:Day (United States of America)Salary Range:$71,612.39 - $110,999.20The Trauma Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinator fulfills an essential function and is dedicated to the Trauma Service at Albany Medical Center (AMC) in accordance with the American College of Surgeons (ACS) standards for both the adult and pediatric trauma program. This individual works in collaboration with the trauma program leadership and is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of the trauma performance improvement process. The Trauma PI Coordinator collects and analyzes benchmarking data, focus studies and clinical indicators. They use advanced skills in quality assessment to perform comprehensive quality of care and service audits to facilitate the development of valid standards and tools. The Trauma PI Coordinator ensures loop closure, prepares reports, presents outcomes and participates in organizational-wide continuous improvement projects as it relates to the trauma program. He/she is self-motivated and a team player. This individual demonstrates accuracy and confidentiality in the handling of all trauma-related matters. Most important the person in this position can conduct quantitative data analysis in reporting (metrics) as well as the qualitative. This position needs to be continually challenging the Trauma program (Pediatric and Adult) and Trauma Teams to look at data; drawing them to metrics that measure care and outcomes and driving to results (PDCA) on safety and quality improvement. Due to the ratio of adult vs. pediatric patients, approximately 90% of the time should be focused on the adult population and 10% on pediatrics.Implement and facilitate the activities outlined in the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) PlanWork collaboratively by meeting daily with the Trauma Program Manager and surgeons, as well as other Trauma program staff, for trauma performance improvement activities and initiativesParticipate in the development and maintenance of the Trauma PIPS PlanDevelop and implement quality and safety indicators, benchmarking, and focus studiesAssist in identification of appropriate indicators to monitorPrepare data collection tools and collect appropriate data for each project or indicatorAnalyze data for trendsMonitor the effectiveness of QI projects and/or new proceduresBe alert to Risk Management issues and notify supervisor as appropriatePrepare and present reports on PI Projects and ReviewsDemonstrate competence on all software programs necessary for effective report preparationPrepare reports necessary to support performance improvement and research functions of the trauma programPrepare the case summaries for the Trauma M&M meetings, Trauma Multidisciplinary Peer Review Committee Meetings, and other PI forumsScribe the minutes of the Trauma M&M and Trauma Multidisciplinary Peer Review Committee meetings to reflect thorough discussion including analysis of the events, conclusions, proposed corrective actions, and/or loop closureMaintain comprehensive supporting documentation related to the Trauma PI processSupports the review of injury data, research data, and performance data from the trauma registryDemonstrate an advanced understanding of trauma surgery procedures and trauma patient care including standards of care as well as potential injury complicationsPossess advanced knowledge of human anatomy and pathophysiologyComplete case reviews and analyses for contributing factors to the variance in care and/or complicationsRecognize breakdowns in the system of care delivery for trauma patientsAssist and support the trauma program staff in issue resolutionActively participate in processes designed to improve trauma care deliveryAssist in the development and/or revision of patient care protocols and policies to improve trauma care deliveryFacilitate the development of necessary staff education for trauma care providers on new or revised policies/protocols/proceduresCoordinate various trauma performance improvement initiatives and works closely with the Trauma Operations Process Performance CommitteeAdditional Responsibilities:maintain confidentiality of trauma related informationcomply with Albany Medical Center employee Health Policies and Inservice StandardsThank you for your interest in Albany Medical Center!​Albany Medical is an equal opportunity employer.This role may require access to information considered sensitive to Albany Medical Center, its patients, affiliates, and partners, including but not limited to HIPAA Protected Health Information and other information regulated by Federal and New York State statutes.
