DescriptionDescription The Chief Medical Information Officer is an experienced clinical executive accountable for the quality and informatics outcomes across the system of care. This position sits at a convergence of technology, quality and safety, patient and caregiver experience. The CMIO will design and execute a strategy leading to a top-tier performance in nationally recognized quality metrics by aligning data systems, clinical intelligence, clinical decision support, pathways, virtual health, and the electronic health record to optimize the quality of care delivered across the UCHealth enterprise. Reports to: Chief Medical Officer, System Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and execute an integrated quality and informatics strategy to achieve Vizient top 10 clinical quality and accountability performance across UCHealth.Partner with the appropriate business and IT leaders to strengthen Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other IT platform governance, prioritizing optimizations that improve Vizient outcomes, throughput, efficiency, and safety.Collaborate with operational intelligence and IT analytics teams to create a clinical intelligence platform that unifies EHR data, third-party data, and other sources into a single structure aligned with Vizient measures.Establish an agile Clinical Decision Support (CDS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) framework targeting UCHealth's Vizient gaps, embedding and iteratively refining EHR alerts to close care deficiencies.Design clinician-facing dashboards that surface actionable opportunities and care gaps at the point of care.Create provider dashboards that display performance on Vizient quality domains and trigger positive and negative exception notifications.Implement a program to review and optimize all EHR clinical content (order sets, CDS, documentation, pathways, etc.) to promote evidence-based practice and reduce alert fatigue and practice variation.Continuously enhance the clinician experience with IT by implementing changes that increase efficiency and reduce documentation burden.Partner with Virtual Health Center (VHC) leadership to create a quality surveillance and operational command center that tracks for latent conditions, leading indicators, care gaps, and facilitates real-time interventions.Strengthen UCHealth's safety culture by partnering with regional CMOs, CQOs, and CNOs to embed quality and safety methodology and high-reliability practices into clinical care.Design clinical informatics strategy to integrate provider and nursing expertise, emphasizing improved patient outcomes, safety, and operational throughput.Essential FunctionsProvides guidance for current and long-range objectives and strategically plans for UCHealth's future EHR functionality, as well as other supporting clinical systems.Working collaboratively with IT, medical leadership, and nursing leadership, drives optimization of the EHR and other clinical systems. Increases provider and care team satisfaction with IT systems.Reduces EHR related fatigue and promotes clinician wellness with IT systems.Assesses and provides recommendations for emerging IT technologies and applications.Provides support in the design of clinical and enterprise data warehouse strategies to support analytics, quality reporting, clinical registries, and AI enablement.Provides expertise in support of provider workflow and thinking at the interface of patient care and information management.Represents the clinical staff for all aspects of IT.Appointment to the UCHealth medical staff and 20% commitment to clinical care required.Reporting RelationshipsReports to Chief Medical Officer Accountable to Chief Information Officer, System and Chief Nursing Executive, System Supervisory ResponsibilitiesSupervises Clinical Informatics team across all roles including physician and nursing informatics leaders and staff. QualificationsMD, DO or BSN eligible for licensure in Colorado. Board certified in Clinical Informatics (ABPM) and in their clinical specialty Minimum of ten years of progressive leadership in the domains of quality and health IT with executive level experience strongly preferred.Masters in healthcare management (MBA, MHA, DNP, PhD) or equivalent training required. Obtained Epic Physician Builder, Epic Clinical Content Builder or Epic Clinical Builder certification. Demonstrates high integrity, fortitude, creativity and positive approach to problem solving. High level of demonstrated expertise in change management. Analytical and strategic problem-solving capabilities. Experience Salary: 457,600 - $330.01 annual base.
