At Astound, we believe in creating astounding possibilities for everyone, everywhere.A Day in the Life of the Construction and Maintenance Technician I:Perform basic troubleshooting, repair and alignment of forward and return paths, including AC/DC voltage, RF levels, cable modems and RSUs.Perform RF troubleshooting and repairs, and escalate unresolved issues to appropriate work groups as needed.Troubleshoot and repair network power supplies.  Check voltage levels, reset circuit breakers, replace batteries, etc.Read and interpret node printsAssist in the installation of Status MonitoringFollow established engineering and technical processes and proceduresParticipate in advanced site surveys as requiredProvide technical support to other departments as required, including drop repair, plant construction, and headend/hub maintenance.  Participate in "joint meets" with other Technicians to resolved customer escalated issues, either to identify the cause and refer the problem to the correct department, or to repair the problem.Maintain a daily log to track individual performance, maintain accountability, and use as reference/reporting tool.Respond to periodic requests to do a locate on any excavating activities found by other field technicians, supervisors, or when short term monitoring projects are required, when major excavation projects are underway in close proximity to the OSP.Respond to dispatches to any sites where underground plant damage occurs to aid in the investigation if one is initiated to determine why and/or how the OSP was damaged.Maintain positive relationships with other local utilities and government agencies in order to maintain open communication lines for speedy responsiveness to OSP related issues.Follow required procedures for establishing and maintaining a safe work zoneParticipate in on-call rotation schedule as needed (Market specific)Participate in Regional Market assignmentsPerform duties associated with construction of aerial and underground coaxial and fiber cableSplice coaxial and fiber cablesPerform RF balancing of coaxial outside plant electronicsTroubleshoot fiber optic equipment and fibers using state of the art test equipmentPerform other duties as assignedWhat You Bring to the Table:Construction knowledge and skills including splicing and use of various tools and equipmentStrong organizational, communication, and technical skills a plusExperience with HFC system maintenance, repair, and outside plant preferredAbility to communicate concisely and understandablyAbility to ask questions to gather information, access info, and make sound decisionsAbility to work with minimal supervision and maintain a high degree of productivityPhysical Requirements:Ability to lift and carry 45+ lbs.Pulling, pushing, walking, standing, repeated bending, climbing, and reaching above shouldersExposure to excessive heat/cold, humidity/dampness/chilling, dust, odorous chemicals, working closely with others, working aloneRequired Education and/or Certificates/Credentials:High School Diploma or equivalentMinimum one (1) year of relevant experienceWe're Proud to Offer a Comprehensive Benefits Package Including:401k retirement plan, with employer matchInsurance options including: medical, dental, vision, life and STD insurancePaid Time Off/Vacation: Starting at 80 hours per year, and increases based on tenure with the organizationFloating Holiday: 40 hours per yearPaid Holidays: 7 days per yearPaid Sick Leave: Astound allows a number of paid sick hours per calendar year and varies based on state and/or local lawsTuition reimbursement programEmployee discount program*Benefits listed above are for regular full-time positionThe base salary in Maryland for this position is $20.11-$33.45 per hour plus opportunities for bonus, benefits and commission, if applicable. The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and capabilities.
