General NotesDell Medical School is seeking a Medical Assistant for the Float PoolPurposeThe Medical Assistant (MA) supports physicians and other healthcare professionals by performing clinical and administrative tasks to ensure efficient patient care. Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor, the MA works closely with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff. Key responsibilities include preparing patients for examinations, recording medical histories, performing basic laboratory tests, and assisting with minor surgical procedures.ResponsibilitiesPatient CarePrepares patients for examinations and treatments.Records patient medical histories and vital signs.Assists physicians during physical examinations.Clinical SupportAdministers medications and treatments under supervision.Collects and prepares laboratory specimens.Performs basic laboratory tests.Administrative DutiesSchedules patient appointments and manages appointment software.Maintains cleanliness and sanitation in examination rooms.Handles patient inquiries, billing, and insurance verification.Equipment ManagementOperates and maintains medical equipment.Orders and maintains medical supplies.Ensures proper sterilization of instrumentsOther Job Duties may apply as assignedMarginal or Periodic FunctionsInventory ManagementConducts periodic inventory checks.Restocks supplies as needed.Patient EducationProvides education and support to patients regarding health conditions.Instructs patients on medication and dietary plans.DocumentationAssists with updating electronic health records (EHR).Supports documentation for quality improvement initiativesKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesCustomer FocusSkilled: Anticipates and meets the needs of patients and healthcare providers.Effective Behaviors: Actively listens to patient concerns, provides timely responses, and ensures patient satisfaction.Technical SkillsSkilled: Proficient in using medical equipment and performing clinical procedures.Effective Behaviors: Accurately measures vital signs, administers injections, and performs EKGs.Interpersonal SkillsSkilled: Builds strong relationships with patients and healthcare team members.Effective Behaviors: Communicates effectively, collaborates with colleagues, and provides emotional support to patients.Time ManagementSkilled: Efficiently manages multiple tasks and prioritizes workload.Effective Behaviors: Schedules appointments, manages patient flow, and completes tasks within deadlines.AdaptabilitySkilled: Adjusts to changing environments and patient needs.Effective Behaviors: Responds to emergencies, adapts to new protocols, and remains calm under pressureRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent.1 year of relevant experience in a clinical setting.Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).Preferred QualificationsAssociate degree in Medical Assisting or related field.2 years of relevant experience in a healthcare environmentBasic Life Support (BLS) certification.Phlebotomy certificationSalary Range$42,000 + depending on qualificationsWorking ConditionsStandard office equipmentRepetitive use of a keyboardMay be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications and disoriented or combative patients, or othersRequired MaterialsResume/CV3 work references with their contact information; at least one reference should be from a supervisorLetter of interestImportant for applicants who are NOT current university employees or contingent workers: You will be prompted to submit your resume the first time you apply, then you will be provided an option to upload a new Resume for subsequent applications.
