Job Description

Job Title: Senior Planning / Scheduling Engineer (EPC) Our client is seeking a Senior Planning / Scheduling Engineer (EPC) to support the development, execution, and control of large-scale EPC projects. This role is responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing integrated project schedules and providing proactive schedule management insights to support successful project delivery. The Senior Planning / Scheduling Engineer works closely with project management, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams to ensure schedule integrity, identify risks and opportunities, and support informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Develop, maintain, and analyze integrated EPC project schedules using Primavera P6 Collaborate with project teams to develop detailed work plans and schedules covering: Engineering Procurement Subcontracts Construction Commissioning Monitor progress against schedule baselines, milestones, and key deliverables Identify schedule variances, risks, and opportunities and develop mitigation strategies Analyze schedule impacts due to changes in scope, resources, sequencing, or priorities Prepare and present schedule reports, forecasts, and performance metrics for project stakeholders Perform critical path analysis, resource loading/leveling, and schedule optimization Support schedule compression initiatives and recovery planning as required Participate in project meetings and reviews, providing schedule updates and recommendations Typical Duties and Responsibilities Under the direction of the Lead Planner, develop and report critical path schedules and related planning deliverables Apply standard planning and scheduling techniques, procedures, and company standards Facilitate preparation of project execution plans and schedules Provide accurate and timely status updates of the project plan and schedule Follow established corporate processes, procedures, templates, and reporting requirements Actively collaborate as a member of the Project Controls (PC) Team Facilitate interactive planning sessions with key project stakeholders Develop schedule breakdown structures (SBS/WBS) in alignment with project requirements Coordinate with the Lead Cost Engineer to ensure integration of Primavera P6 and EcoSys coding structures Prepare network logic diagrams for project segments or full project schedules Perform forward and backward pass analysis and identify critical path activities and milestones Develop and maintain schedule versions including: Preliminary schedules 90-day look-ahead schedules Master control schedules Perform short-interval and short-cycle schedule impact analysis Resource load project schedules and validate manpower curves Collect, validate, and integrate earned value and schedule progress from vendors and contractors Review and analyze vendor and subcontractor schedules for compliance and critical path impact Prepare tabular, graphical, and narrative schedule reports as required Perform schedule health checks, risk analysis, and forecast assessments Support change management by integrating approved changes into schedule forecasts Develop schedule alternatives to address changes in priorities or execution strategy Facilitate schedule review meetings with project teams, vendors, and contractors Provide proactive schedule assessments to support project management decision-making Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field 15+ years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree Extensive experience as a Planning / Scheduling Engineer or Project Controls Specialist on large EPC or mega projects Industry experience in: Oil & Gas Petrochemicals Industrial Gases Proficiency in Primavera P6 Strong working knowledge of: Project scheduling and controls Resource management Earned Value Management (EVM) Schedule risk analysis Experience with Deltek Acumen preferred Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-based EPC environment Work Location Engineering Phase: Houston, TX (office-based collaboration) Execution Phase: Gonzales, LA (project site–based collaboration following completion of engineering)   If this is a role that interests you and you’d like to learn more, click apply now and a recruiter will be in touch with you to discuss this great opportunity.
